Glad to see Valentin sitting against the tough lefty. Hopefully, Dransfeldt will be able to make routine plays today.

Does this mean that Mags is going on the DL? Also, what do you all think about Uribe leading off again?

MRKARNO
06-02-2004, 01:23 PM
OK that A's lineup looks pathetic , but it might be smart bc of Kielty's career #'s against Buehrle

Why Dransfeldt?????? He can't hit any higher than 7th or 8th in Charlotte, why put him 8th in our lineup?? I guess Ozzie predicts Mulder going deep and not seeing much or any RHP relievers.

My, that's a weak offensive lineup, though an understandable one with Magglio out.

Friday will be the official call probably. In any case if he did go on the DL it would only be for a little more than one week because he's already sat out 6 days prior to today's game.

They both look weak at the bottom and without their 3 hitters (Chavez and Maggs), but our lineup is still a lot better than theirs.

Now, I don't pay attention to the A's much, but when I last heard from Eric Brynes he wasn't exactly a leadoff type, even by the A's standards.

Has he been batting there often?

Trying to break up the run of righties. Harris makes it a little more difficult to bring in a righty to face the top of the order in the late innings. I agree though, I'd still rather have someone hitting in front of Uribe.

Harris hasn't exactly been great shakes against tough lefties either the past two years:

2003: .105/.150/.105
2004: .100/.143/.150

Again, Valentin, in a very small smaple size this year, is .227/.306/.318 against LHP. That not very good either, but at least there's no numbers beginning with "1".

Yes, at least since Kotsay has struggled this year. He spent a majority of the time leading off last year too.

To small of a sample size for willie. He looks alot more comfortable against them then jose does, willie will get his hits.

Willie hit the ball with authority every time he went to the plate yesterday, including that 1st inning double and the line-out to 3rd base. Then, he walked against Bradford prior to the Thomas HR.

I love Harden too, but I might like Joe Blanton even more. He's down at AAA right now. With Tim Hudson's K rate dropping like a rock (go check it now. You won't believe how low it is right now), I'm curious how Beane will handle his situation. Hudson may be a guy who can get away with a lower strikeout total because of the hard sinker he throws. Still, I think it's a cause for a bit of concern.

Oakland has a lot of options. Beane would be smart to move Hudson and his salary, considering he already has Zito/Mulder at the front of his rotation.

And do what in CF? Rowand? The Sox have a problem with too many LH'ed bench players, they don't have enough RH'ed options when facing a LH'd starter.

I usually don't follow pitch counts too closely, but it seems unusual that Buehrle's thrown 122 pitches despite only allowing 1 run on 5 hits through 6 innings of work.

Shingo only threw a few pitches yesterday, so maybe he'll be in today.

Hatteberg hits a double to right, 1 run scores.

Groundout follows, advancing the runner to 3rd.

man on third, 2 out.

2-2

Was there any doubt that this shmuck was going to blow the game - especially with all the runners the Sox left on base?

God damn Koch. How many people thought he'd actually get the job done today? Honestly.

Was it a solid hit, or a git me over pitch that Koch needed to make?

What the hell was Ozzie doing intentionally walking McLemore to face Byrnes? Byrnes is a much better hitter.

Well at least Shingo had a 1-2-3 inning through the meat of the order, with the bottom coming up the next inning, I would have put Koch in too!

I'd also like to thank the umpire for not ringing up Hatteberg on that inside pitch. It was close enough to be strike 3.

Wasn't a double, was a bloop hit that Rowand misplayed after it dropped, and he got to 2nd on the error

I didn't. It's why I turned off the game and loggen on here.

I'll say this. I HATE BILLY KOCH!!!!! I'VE HATED HIM SINCE KW FIRST MADE THAT STUPID TRADE. I THINK HE IS A LOUSY PITCHER WHO HAS NOTHING TO OFFER THIS TEAM EXCEPT FOR A CHANCE TO BLOW LEADS. I DON'T CARE WHAT HIS NUMBERS ARE FOR THIS YEAR IN TERMS OF SAVES, HE'S HURT THIS TEAM A LOT MORE THEN HE'S HELPED IT.

I'm done with the capital letters.

The last thing I want to see is someone sticking up for this bum.

McLemore is a switch hitter and Byrnes bats right-handed

What is, "M. McLemore to second on fielder's indifference?"

Is that stealing second, but it not mattering?

This is koch's second blown save. He has been lights out recently. I don't question ozzie one bit putting him in there. He's been named our closer, you keep with him until he consistently blows saves.

Takatsu should be our end of the game closer. I can't take any more of Botch. Hawk just lamented that Billy really pitched well.
I don't see this at all and it just has become too common for Koch to put the opposition back in the game.

Time to move on Ozzie.

Maybe Koch is just trying to get another win instead of a save.

I think the runner does not get credit for a stolen base.

His run meant nothing, so he took second without a play.
He does not get credit for a stolen base.

Thanks once again Billy Koch.
We better win this thing despite you. Lost in this is a good solid start by Buehrle; good inning by Jackson; great job by Shingo.

Eric Gagne is LIGHTS OUT, Billy Koch is keeping Rolaids in business and currently is the cause of about 7 ulcers in My stomach... Billy once accidently had a 1-2-3 inning.

IMHO, Koch should only pitch when the Sox are up or down 10 runs.

I hate Koch. He's awful.

It's time to try someone else, anyone else.

Screw that - I say let Billy "try again" when we're facing KC with a 5 run lead. I'm not in the mood to hear any more post-game "good guy" comments from Koch about how "My teammates have every right to get mad at me. I just blew it."

No thanks. It doesn't take Miss Cleo to figure out that one... I'll just wait for the dumbass Koch postgame remark to complete the 2 step process...

Atkins?

You know. Everyone is ripping on Koch but I will come to his defense. 1) How many scoring opportunities have the sox squandered in this game, and 2) the game tying pitch that was hit was about neck high. Pitches neck high aren't usually hit for game tying singles.

Yep, it's "Low Carb" Adkins

balboner
06-02-2004, 05:22 PM
I blame a lot of this on Sandy Alomar. He allowed that pitch to get past him to help score Durazo, and his offense has been sad. Isn't it time he gets another knee injury? He has to be the worst throwing catcher in baseball also.

The Sox now have had 18 baserunners (12 hits, 6 BBs) and only TWO frickin' runs! That seems almost impossible. Good grief - how about somebody at some point getting the big hit today.

True the Sox blew chance after chance. But, bottom line, your closer comes in to save a 1 run lead and didn't do it. Once again he put the leadoff man on.

Agreed, the pitch before should have been strike three on Hatteberg, and the pitch that was hit was a good one that Hatteberg hit for a duck snort that scored Durazo.

Everyone should stop calling for radical changes after every loss

Well. That sucked. That really sucked.

Kotsay jacks one out against Adkins and the Sox blow a game that they had, oh, about seventy four gazillion chances to win. That was a classic pulling defeat out of the jaws of victory performance. Yuck.

I hate West Coast trips.
