Political affiliations aside, this article was fantastic on its own for calling out Blago and all other hop-on-the-bandwagon fans. Kass even drops a Willsy reference in for good measure. Good stuff for the 2nd page of the Tribune.

(Blago speaking first) "Jeepers, I thought maybe you and the other Sox fans wouldn't want me here after that stupid stuff I said."

What stupid stuff, exactly?

"When I said that I wouldn't wear a Sox hat even if the Sox were in the World Series. But then I forgot to mention that I wore a Sox jacket--and dressed my daughter in a Sox jacket--when I threw out the first pitch at Sox Park last year."

So?

"So I guess everyone saw the photograph. And a lot of other people read about how I said I was a Cardinals fan when I was campaigning in southern Illinois."

You're a politician. This way, please.

"Look, I needed votes. So I smooched up to people's teams so they'd vote for me. And they did."

Does anyone have the photo of Blago wearing the Sox jersey? If so, please post it here.

For his part, Blagojevich said he agreed as a matter of politeness to wear a White Sox jacket when he threw out the ceremonial first pitch at a recent home game on the South Side.

"Let me be clear," the governor said. "I am unabashedly a Cubs fan."

Blagojevich questioned the sports loyalty of another Democrat, U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin.

"If you hear Sen. Durbin, he's Cubs, he's Sox and the Cardinals," Blagojevich said. "I'm a Cubs fan."

Now, now, Blago said he wouldn't wear a Sox cap.
Wouldn't want to mess up that helmet hair. :D:

He didn't say anything about not wearing a Sox Jacket.

I really like John Kass too. I'm sure I read his Harry Caray article but I would certainly like to have a copy of it. It would be great to read it again.

I can't believe it a scrubs fan came to the cell. And he brought his family. How Dangerous and Daring .I wonder if Blago brought a gun to the rough and tumble south side. Oh wait, didn't he want to ban blackpowder muskets. That's good, because I heard the south side is up in drive-bys with blackpowder rifles.

Did Blago really claim to be a redbird fan to the downstate folks? My understanding is, downstate you're either a Cards fan or a Scrubs fan, and duplicity like this could hurt him in the downstate vote. As if he isn't a one-termer already.

And Kass did say that Scrub fans are welcome at USCF. Well yes, if they behave themself.
