From White Sox. com:

"With the misfortune suffered by every fifth starter who has taken the mound for the White Sox during the past two years, minor-league candidates to fill that void such as Jason Grilli, Jon Rauch and Arnie Munoz might be a little leery to get that particular Major-League call.

It was Neal Cotts' turn to step up and assume that role on Saturday, moving into the rotation after 12 relief appearances and failures by Dan Wright and Felix Diaz to take the fifth spot.

Cotts was on a short leash before he even threw a pitch, having worked no longer than 2 1/3 innings this season and thrown a high of 30 pitches. But much like his last start in New York on Aug. 28, 2003, the left-hander struggled from the get go.

The White Sox offense has been vastly different this season between its wins and losses. They are hitting .310 with 172 runs scored (7.2 per game) during victories and .224 with 51 runs scored in its losses.

The fifth starter's record for the last two seasons falls to 3-17, those numbers coming from Cotts, Wright, Diaz, Josh Stewart and Mike Porzio."
