Since the weather is against us so far, what is the most double headers the Sox have ever played in a season?

I sure don't know, but ya gotta remember years ago Sunday doubleheaders were commonplace. not to mention occasional twi-night doubleheaders.

Plus all holidays were doubleheaders. And, for the most part, teams had four man starting staffs.

There was much more reliance on railroads for transportation back then. Flying (thru the 50s) was done on propeller planes, much slower.

'Back in the day' when doubleheaders were common, the World Series was actually finished by mid-October, and you only played 154 games, the Sox would usually have anywhere from 15-20 doubleheaders in a season.

Every home Sunday was a doubleheader, every holiday was a doubleheader and they very often would have twi night doubleheaders as a matter of course during the week.

If you look at the schedules from those days you see some 'unusual' things like being off on a Friday and new series starting on Saturday and sometimes ending on Tuesday.
