Kelly will be on Mac, Jerko & Harry live from Charolette after the commercial. Should be an interestring interview.

They've got to be planning on bringing him back up, no?
Doing radio interviews, and they still run a tape of him for in-game announcements.

Basics of interview:

1. Only contact he has had with the WS organization has been through his agent. Last time he spoke to KW was at ST right before putting him on the DL.

2. He's 100% health except for a few miles of his velocity which he feels will come in the next few weeks.

3. He's not on a "schedule" (as would a person who's re-habbing in the minors) so he's just a part of the AAA bullpen now.

4. Feels he's a MLB pitcher and it's not wise to keep him in AAA at his salary.

When Mac asked him if he will request a trade:

He said in a round-about way that he would like to stay with Chicago but if there's no place for him, he would like to think that the Sox feel that he's a valuable pitcher who would benefit the Sox with some value if traded.

Pretty sad, really. :(:

Jon Adkins is coming back from earth...he is definitely a viable canidate to get sent down in a couple of weeks. Kelly has got to start/keep putting up numbers.

The Sox aren't going to call a former major leaguer up if they are really struggling in the minors. AHAHAHAAA.

The only way Kelly returns to the bullpen is if Cotts becomes the 5th starter or Marte or Cotts gets hurt.

What do you think they'll do if Adkins crashes and burns (which is still a very real possibility, IMHO)? Diaz or Rauch instead?

Disagree. I will bet you if there is a pitcher called up for use in the bullpen (i.e. not Diaz) it's going to be Wunsch. If Adkins starts getting lit up, and Wunsch is getting AAA hitters out, Wunsch will be up here. It's not like we can't use another left hander in the pen. Plus, hes getting paid a ML salary.

They won't carry three lefties in the bullpen. LOCK.

Cotts and Marte aren't lefty specialists. They can pitch to both sides of the plate.

Exactly why you don't need ANOTHER lefty. You already have 2, more-versatile, lefties in the pen. You don't need another lefty who can only get out lefties just to have one. That's redundancy.

Then why do I keep on hearing lefties are so valuable?

But for the sake of arguement, the guy being sent down, whoever that may be, wasn't getting anyone out.

I disagree. If you use Cotts as the long reliver he's going to pitch early in the game. If Marte is the set up man he's going to pitch the 8th or later. That leaves Wunsch to act as a specilist in the remaining innings.

Also, even if Wusnch is pitching against righties which he isn't particularly good at he's still better than Adkins.

Politte, Shingo, and Jackson have all FREQUENTLY been used in set-up roles in addition to Marte. It's not like Marte is the only option. However, if you bring in Wunsch at the cost of Adkins, you then ONLY have Cotts as a long reliever, which is a less-desireable situation than the one i proposed and believe to be the most likely and suitable set-up.

I don't have the figures in front of me and I'm too lazy to look them up but I am positive that Wunch owns the 3rd best BA against v. lefties and the 7th (?) best against righties in all of MLB last year, something like 350 MLB pitchers... The consensus that Wunch can only be effective against lefties is incorrect. I'm pretty sure that he holds both lefties and righties to a BA under .200.

Last year he allowed lefties to hit .127 and righties .153. In his career, lefties hit .180 off him and righties .240. His K/BB ratio against righties is pretty bad, though. 45 BB to 43 Ks in about 70 career innings.

By comparison, Billy Koch has allowed right-handed hitters to bat .243 off him in his career.

There's really no reason, if he is healthy, that Kelly Wunsch should not be pitching at the big-league level.

Cotts -- long man
Wunsch -- LH specialist, some righties
Politte -- set-up
Takatsu -- set-up
Jackson -- set-up
Marte -- Fireman (he's actually pretty good vs. righties too -- .238 in 113 career innings againts them)
Koch -- "closer"

I like the way that looks. Even if we go with 11 pitchers, we should have enough guys to pick up the innings needed.

I had always thought Wunsch was good against righties also. Manuel just didnt like to show you by allowing him to face them.
