Venturing to say, "Run, Don't Walk" (http://www.sperts.net/editorial.php?page=78)

An editorial that raises some points on bases on balls, and Ozzie vs. Jerry.

"...this year's White Sox and the last two world champions..."

I like that grouping.

AS much as I hate defending JM, last years team didn't have fundamentally sound players who could lay down a bunt consistently until they got Alomar. But of course I also blame JM for not working on fundamentals.

This years team does have pplayers like Perez, Uribe and maybe Harris who at least have some fundamental baseball ability.

But the whole idea of playing for one run at a time is stupid in most (not all) cases. Especially if you look at the Sox 3-7 hitters. I never want to see Frank or Magglio lay down a bunt PK probably can't. Lee is questinable and Crede would bprobably be the best of the 5.

This team is still built on power and the 3 run homer. They are not manufacturing runs all that well, even if they have mor stolen bases. They are doing a better job then last year, but they're still waiting for the long ball.

I think playing for one run is stupid early in the game, but if you need a run late in the game, it makes sense to have more than one shot at driving in a runner who's in scoring position.
