LOS ANGELES -- Mike Piazza tied Carlton Fisk's major league record of 351 home runs as a catcher, hitting a tiebreaking shot Tuesday night in the New York Mets' 9-5 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Piazza, who hit his first 177 homers with the Dodgers, went 16 games without one after connecting twice at Atlanta on April 7.

The 10-time All-Star ended the drought against former batterymate Hideo Nomo, lining his fourth homer of the season to left-center with one out in the sixth for a 4-3 lead.

It was Piazza's 362nd home run overall, moving him past Joe DiMaggio for 58th place on the career list -- seven behind Mets broadcaster Ralph Kiner.

So glad Piazza surpassed the king of scum, Revoltin' Joe.

For those who don't know, among his other scummy acts and declarations, Revoltin' pooh-poohed Gretzky's 51 game scoring streak, saying assists weren't the equal of goals.

Like to see Revoltin' spend 20 seconds on the ice with the greatest of hockey players, Bobby Orr.

Hell, he wouldn't last 20 ticks with Keith Magnuson.

Wow, it didn't take long to stray off course in this thread. The subject was Piazza surpassing Fisk and by the 2nd post, it's about Dimaggio vs. the NHL! :?:

Mike Paizza might hav tied Carlton Fisk for the all-time homers by a catcher, but he isn't, never was and never will be the equal of Fisk as a defensive catcher.

Piazza has one of the ugliest swings in the game. I am very surprised he has been as successful as he has been. Anyway, I agree that Piazza could never touch Fisk.
