The flip side to the previous poll I posted - who is the biggest bargain for the buck?
I popped Frank and Schoney on the top just for giggles.

I voted for Marte.

Looks like Big Frank is a lurker, and he just voted for himself. Hee Hee. Just kidding :)

Marte makes 50% less than Shingo, and more than 1/3 less than Schoeneweis??

Though I believe the Big Hurt is underpaid, the most underpaid has to be Miguel Olivo. He is an awesome talent with tons of potential. I see a large pay hike in his future.

Relative to other players in the MLB, Frank is underpaid. I'm certainly not a Frank sympathizer either.
Now Maggs, in relation to other MLB players, is way overpaid.

Olivo's a good choice, but he still has yet to do anything of significance IMO. He will undoubtedly earn a payraise, but at this time I think Marte has proven much more and certainly deserves more than Shingo for cryin' out loud.
Just my opinion.

It's real hard to go against Marte in this category.
I still went with Frank though. :)

And Marte just got a RAISE this year.

For someone of MVP-potential, Frank is a bargain...no doubt about it. Hard-pressed to argue against that if he stays healthy and plays to his capabilities.
I did vote for Marte, but there are several worthy candidates for this honor IMO, Frank being one of them.

Assuming we got rid of Frank this past off season (rumors trading Frank to LA), could we get someone to put up Frank Thomas numbers to replace him for $6M?
No Way. Got my vote.

I voted for Marte. The one that really mystefied me was the one for Adkins. Just wondering why somebody chose him.

The answer is currently Marte by far, but come 2005 it will be Olivo (unless he gets a raise) and by 2006 it will be Cotts (unless he gets a raise).

As far as Big Frank goes, some of his closest comparison players in terms of production and role:
Edgar Martinez - $3,000,000
Juan Gonzalez - $4,000,000
Dmitri Young - $7,750,000
I think Frank is doing pretty well for himself right now. For someone who shuns playing the field and is probably stuck at the .270 with power plateau, $6 mil is fair.

Frank doesn't shun playing the field. I'm sure he'd welcome it, if Konerko was willing.

ME!!!
I'm the most underpaid.
Otherwise I'd say maybe Olivo in terms of what he's shown this year so far.

I guess Frank isn't the only one that lurks around here. :D:
