This seems to be getting ugly fast. What is going to happen when the Sox come up to bat? I hope they don't make this kid look like Cy Young, like JM's teams would do to a kid they have never seen before.

What is Frank's status for this series? I know Valentin was put on the DL retroactive to yesterday, but has anything been decided about Frank?

I don't think there was a hard hit ball that inning. the sox have the bats to come back, but that type of inning can jumpstart an offense, and so many of these yankees are due to start hitting.

And given the pitching matchup, this was the game which we were supposed to win. Great job wetting your pants, Buehrle.

Got to chip away, guys, we don't need all 7 back at once.

They'd claw their way back against a lousy pitcher.

Actually, I think this will be one of those games that shows us just how hungry Ozzie's Sox are. With Manuel, I'd have it turned off by now. With Ozzie, let's wait and see.

Brian26
04-20-2004, 07:52 PM
There's absolutely no reason (other than Frank not being in the lineup) that the Sox cannot come back from this.

Of course, Rowand just misplayed that ball.

Now it's 8-1.

Get MB out of there! This is not accomplishing anything. He obviously doesn't have it today so it can't be helping his confidence to leave him in to get shelled.

I don't think his confidence could get hurt anymore after giving up 7 first inning runs. However, it could be a nice confidence booster if he could pitch some nice ball for the next few innings and keep us in this thing.

Patience at the plate is key for two reasons right now:

So hopefully we can prolong this game, perhaps letting the rain pour down on the Cell, canceling the game.

If it doesn't rain, we need baserunners! Lets go, we can get this done!

I do not want to go to the bullpen because Wright and Shoey still have to pitch, meaning they will not get past 5 innings and we need our pen for the week.

And, I don't recall a game like this in years...not to equate Buehrle to anything close to him, but this reminds me of the Jaime Navarro years.

Perhaps a stupid question, but my mind is failing me. Don't the stats count if a game gets rained out? I was thinking that the game is not official, but that the stats count.

I know that it's a little early, but the radar looks pretty promising...

The stats only count if the game makes it to the 5th inning and is "official," like the first game of the Sox sweep over the Flubs in 1999 that was only 5 innings due to rain. If the game gets rained out and made up, the stats are nulled.

I don't see it raining very much longer. From the Radar, there is not much behind the storm so once it moves past, it will be gone. There is another system that I referred to earlier but I don't think that will affect chicago. That said, I also stated earlier that it would not get to severe and we all know how that worked out. That is one good thing about being in weather, your never wrong, the pattern just changed. :D:

Unfortunate luck don't you think for the Sox to face a pissed off Yankee team with Thomas and Valentin out or should I amend that to 'typical' White Sox luck. Plus they don't even get the rain out. I wonder if those two being out bugged the Sox mentally tonight...oh well.

Key at bat in that abortion of a first inning, A-Rod's bunt. (Guess that adds some fuel to the fire when Ozzie said Maggs and Frank should be able to bunt.)

If the Sox could come back it would be incredible but they need to do it fast, remember Rivera shortens a nine inning game.

Don't worry, the umps let the game go this long, they'll finish it.

I hope the Sox can somehow find a positive with tonight's dismal performance and can apply it in the next few days.

It would be a shame to see a pretty good two week's worth of play go right down the drain (no pun intended with all the rain!) in 72 hours.

Somehow 8-7 doesn't impress me all that mutch. Just win a game...do not get swept. 9-6 at least is a little better.

Shingo's walk (after the weak hit) was his worst moment, hence ozzie pulled him, but then cotts following with 2 more was really the beginning of the end ... and we think cotts will mature to 4 or 5 starter!?!?

What is it about pitching to the Yankees that seems to turn Cotts into a HS pitcher? Come on kid, wake up, they put those pinstripes on one leg at a time and trust me, none of these uniforms were ever actually worn by Ruth and Gherig or even Mantle and Maris.

Adkins is turing into a real solid pickup. Sox got him for Durham or Lofton a few years ago, right? I thought he was never supposed to amount to much.

Yeah, I think he came over from Oakland in 2002. Another nice pickup from the fabled Billy Beane (including Olivo in there as well). We'll have to wait for Kenny's book to come out to hear his side of the story. :D:
