It's supposed to rain pretty badly and there's a small chance of a washout. Hopefully it will stop raining in time for the game, but there is a good chance of at least a delayed start.

At least a delayed start if not a total wash. :(:

I think there's a very slight chance of a rain out tonight because:

1. About 30,000 advance sale.
2. Yankees only trip in this year and the forecast for Wednesday and Thursday is no better than tonight.
3. Buehrle v. pitcher making 1st big league start.

Well, at least it's ESPN rain poncho night tonight.

I guess we'll need them.

If the game is rained out it looks like it could be a double header tomorrow.

How sweet would that be? I wish I had tickets.

I'm sure it'd be one of those day-night doubleheaders that work as two separate games.

Storm seems to be moving quickly. Seems to be definately over by 7p. The field should be easily able to drain this amount of rain. It appears that it will be a "go" tonight!

A rainout would be too bad. We'd miss a chance at a rookie pitcher and get three real starters instead (Vasquez, Mussina and Contreras?)
Though the Sox track record against first-time starters isn't great.

Sigh...the Flubs get 80 degrees and sun for 4 ****ing games against the Reds at the Urinal (while the Sox played indoors in Florida), while the Sox get 50s and rain for their sole home Yankees series.

:(:

Snowballs chance in hell of that happening. They will make a trip back or we'll go there again.

Or they could wait 3 hours and have first pitch at 10:10 like they did last year against the Tigers. That was not fun, I was there. But I stayed because I got the tickets through work and they were 9th row behind the Sox dugout. At least the Sox gave everybody free tickets to another game to everyone that stayed.

They did it for those that stayed for last years opening day, too.

I think their cut off is 10:30. But it looks like another round of storms is heading in around 11ish. Hopefully they just get this going by 8 and get it over with.

We always get bad weather when the Yankees play for some reason. In 2002, it rained, last year it was cold. I went to the 1st and last game the series. I got cold and rain. I even talked to KW before the game and he said they didn't even need to play it becuase the Sox season was over.

in my professional oppinion (i always wanted to say that) i think the heavy rain should hold off; there is some pretty bad stuff moving towards IL, but that could be a few hours away and is debatable if it will hit as high as chicago anyway.

As much as I'd like to see baseball tonight, the Sox could get a huge crowd (sellout?) for a day-night doubleheader against the Yankees on Thursday ...

It's better to have 25,000 for two games than 40,000 for one day.

What irony! What a promotion for ESPN. They're getting their marketing dollar's worth tonight.

They did? Are you sure? Because nobody ever told me, and if I missed out on free tickets, I'd be really pissed...

Now someone who never heard of ESPN might turn the dial and check it out.

I remember the Friday night game in June 2000 against the Yankees where C. Lee hit a homer off of Rivera in the bottom of the 9th and Valentin had the game-winning RBI. There was a rain delay for over an hour and we were in the crappy upper deck. We drank a bunch in the upper deck concourse during the delay while everyone else left and then we moved down to the 10th row behind the Sox dugout to watch the last half of the game. Between the extra hour of drinking and the great finish beating Rivera, I was as crazy excited as I've ever been at Comiskey.

Last night's rain was a perfect example of why the new roof rocks. I was in the 5th row of the UD and once the rain started, I did the "comiskey upgrade" up to the 15th or so row under the roof. :)
