In the wake of today's tragedies in Lower Manhattan and the District of Columbia, there is panic in the area over gasoline. I drove around tonight, and every gas station I saw was overrun with cars in line to get gas. While the price signs remain the same as before, to the best of my knowledge, there are rumors that the price of gasoline will jump to as much as $4.00 per gallon. Again, these are only rumors and not confirmed fact.

Reacting to these rumors, Gov. Ryan said that the State of Illinois will not tolerate gas stations exploiting this tragedy for financial gain.

I too saw major overcrowding at 5 or 6 gas stations I drove by this evening.

My wife told me that CNN repoted that NYC gas stations were charging $4/gal right after the bombing.

No panic yet in Western NY, just took a ride, no unusual activity at stations, gas at $1.39/gal. I guess we don't panic unless we get 4ft. of snow.

i heard that the government is going to 'freeze' oil prices. This is from NPR, gasoline prices and supplies should not be affected. (even so, i filled up tonight...)
