That's a little dissapointing, considering how well they were hitting a few days ago. The Sox really need to learn to play on the road.

I got it all set up now, finally getting to watch a game. Thank you WGN! it's all fuzzy and you can't hear the announcer but that's ok, I got briefcase full of blues going to inspire the sox to take the series. What a perfect day.

I gotta say, I am pleased with the SP so far this year. Nothing too spectaluar, but just giving them a chance to win is more than I can ask for.

Aside from game 1, when we just blew I think it's a good sign. You gotta be able to score runs with base hits and not just extra base hits all the time.

The Sox need to jump on Gonzalez early. His numbers aren't good at all, so they need to care of business against him.

If Paul Konerko thinks opposite way, he is one of the best hitters in the majors.

I'm not wild about Olivo popping up the first pitch with a runner on second and 1 out...

meanwhile the Sox have 5 hits, 4 of the Extra Base variety.

3-0 Sox, Bottom 4

People who can actually watch the game right now, how Loiaza doing. Based on stats alone, it looks to me like he's dealing big time. Is that what it looks like or is he just getting lucky?

Loaiza looking great. Changing speeds, his velocity is better, his cutter is working. NOTHING has been hit hard off him and the Rays hitters have had a LOT of one-hand shallow-fly-outs...

On the offensive side, I'm just thankful we have such a mediocre catcher... GOOD LORD, Miguel can fly...

Wow, these guys are cranking out the runs today. Who wants to bet Olivo will be a sleeper All-Star catcher this year?

Of course I get to work today, so I miss one of our most consistent inning-by-inning games so far this season.....on both offense and defense....*siiiiigh*

And even worse, it's on WGN which means no replay tonight on FSN.......*siiiiiiiiiigh* :(:

Olivo has gotten a lot better since last season. I'm really impressed with the way he's been swinging the bat. If he can keep this up, I see no reason why he wouldn't make the All Star team.

His pitch selection at the plate is VASTLY improved. Seriously, folks, this is the kind of progress he made from AA year 1 to AA year 2.

Loaiza is DEALING. He looks like he's facing a bunch of college hitters out there...

Speaking of which, I don't recall seeing Olivo swing on any crappy sliders way outside the zone this year. Maybe once after like 8 pitches. Last year, he'd consistently strike out on those outside breaking balls.

Too bad for Loaiza, I would have loved to see him get a no-no.

What else is new. I also love watching Sportcenter or any other sports show on TV:

"Here's Cubs versus Pirates...." 10 minutes later "And in other news, the Sox beat the Yankees again 12 -2, sorry no highlights"

Cubbiesuck13

if he did pitch a no-no, marriotti's column would be about how umpires need to respect kerry wood and baylor.

Loaiza is absolutely dealing. The question is, does Ozzie keep him in there for the 8th if Loaiza continues to cruise? I'd hate to squander this lead, as it seems we're about due for a bullpen breakdown of some sort.

Saracen
04-18-2004, 02:07 PM
He's only thrown 90 pitches. Give him one more inning.

Cubbiesuck13
04-18-2004, 02:08 PM
the man is cruising, why not let him get the complete game shutout?

Saracen
04-18-2004, 02:10 PM
They should let him get the shutout. But it all depends on him not needing 25 or 30 pitches this next inning.

1. ELo looked like the ELo of 2003 out there today... awesome.
2. When the TV panned the dugout, Ozzie was up on the top step right until the end of the game... too me, that speaks volumes.
3. As for #2, Ozzie was obviously pulling for a CG for Esteban... but enthusiasm is contiguous... go Oz!
4. Frank looked as though he tweaked his hammy on his swing... someone show the Frank to the whirlpool.
5. Sox won a road series after dropping the opener Friday... way to get it back.
6. PK, maybe you should think opposite field more often... nice tater.
7. C'mon Sox, keep it up... as B.T. Express once said, "do it 'till your satisfied"!
8. We've been giving the Yankees some lumps in NY the last couple of years... let's hold serve at home this time around.

GO SOX!

Huge win for us today. Nice that we came back after that Friday loss to win a series on the road by winning the last two games. That's also huge since we've had so much trouble down in the Dome over the years. Great, great win. ELo made it look easy- almost too easy, but we'll take it. The Sox haven't lost a series yet.

I absolutely loved how he jumped all over the first pitch of the game and smashed it into centerfield for a base hit. He then swiftly stole second. Jose and Mags couldn't get him in, but the stolen base allowed him to get to third on Mags' ground out (2nd out of the inning), and he ended up scoring on a wild pitch. If he can just continue to get on base like he has recently, his speed is going to manufacture a ton of runs. The thing is, he really wants to run, too. There are some guys out there who don't want to run. Robbie Alomar couldn't necessarily do this for us. Willie might end up being a bigger asset than any of us ever could have imagined.

I guess all this arm-angle talk wasn't complete BS huh? I stand corrected for ever doubting pitching coaches...I was sitting here thinking it was an excuse but obviously Loaiza and Coop made some major progress the last few days. YES!

Agree... the Sox always have hit the cover off the ball the last few years... but the lineup now has Bake McBride like speed to go along with the thunder, which will keep team batting slumps to a minimum.
