So long as **IF** we make the playoffs, it's not a repeat of the Cubs adventure in San Diego or ours in 2000 in Seattle.

Bob Vanderberg, Sox historian, and assistant sports editor of the Tribune had a story exactly along those lines right after the Cubs signed Maddux. It was warning Cub fans that the last time a Chicago baseball team had a rotation like that was in 1984 after the Sox were able to get Tom Seaver. The team promptly fell apart although Seaver did his part with 15 wins.
