Petco Park:

If you ask me, the upper deck is by far the best at the cell; the closest to the action. The only difference is that we dont have as many mid-levels or club levels.

I'm just glad that damn park looks like a baseball park for once.
By the way, is there going to be more than 20 homers hit in Petco all year?? It's ridiculous!

I don't really mind seeing a pitcher's park for once. Though Comerica was supposed to be and look at what the Twinkies did the other day.

To me our park looks the most intimate out of the three. That's a great photo btw. Would you mind sending it to ballparksofbaseball.com, so that they can update USCF and give our park some props??

Good call. Since that site was brought up the other day I've been addicted and I noticed their pics were very old. I give them credit though because they did have some mid renovation pics at the bottom.

That picture is incredible. I can't believe how good it looks now.

I check out that site quite often. It would be nice to see our park in the "most visted parks of the month" section.

Now compare to the great Wrigley Field. It really compares favorably now IMO. The seats are higher up and the UD is steeper, but because the lower deck is smaller at the cell, the seats are about the same distance from the field.

As much as I hate Wrigley and Cubs' fans, the front half of the upper deck at Wrigley is a really nice seat while the front of the upper deck at USCF will always be worse since there's no overhang over the club levels or luxury boxes. This was just an atrocious architectural error, especially for a publicly funded park, and there's really no remedy for it now. That extra 35 feet up makes a big difference and it's all the more galling when those boxes are empty most of the time.

What I can't get over is that LUDICROUS red brick wall in CF at Citizen's Bank Park (Philly). It looks completely out of place. What were they thinking?!

Or what about those ludicrous tan light towers in San Diego?

Equally bizarre. Actually, those look even more bizarre on second glance. Are these destined to become "beloved quirks" of the future? Yeesh.

I saw them in person in december and couldn't figure what they were at first. Now I'm just as confused as why they are there. They seem rather ridiculous.

"It's simple. When they put seats on top of the green monster in beautiful Fenway Park, everyone wanted to get in on it. Now they are building parks with looney seating on the balconies of buildings and in light towers. But it's just not the same as beautiful Fenway. That's why Boston will win the World Series this year, etc etc ..."

Those things are like the poles we have, only a hundred times the circumfrence. If you're on the far side of one of those things and close to it, you can't see anything. The upper deck shouldn't meet up with the towers on the opposite side, there should be a gap.

And compared to its progenitor:

Better late than never, I say. Kamin's essay in the Tribune was
on the mark -- the new park was too damn big. It was a
Grand Stadium instead of a ballpark. The remodeling of the
upper deck brings it back to the ballpark it should have been
all along.

I was just at Petco last night with a $5.00 General Admission ticket and roamed around / checked all the views. Upper deck is somewhat ugly with bad views, but the same ticket gets you on the rooftop of the Western Metals building in left field with a great view, bleacher style seating, and plenty of food/beer nearby. Could not find any Brats

Here's what we should've built from the get go.

http://us.f2.yahoofs.com/users/3f4abfd6_11203/bc/Yahoo!+Photo+Album/dcd2.jpg?pfDsWfAB.SQS_cnr

Take away the upper deck in right, reduce capacity to 42000 or so, and situate it for a skyline view.

And we wouldn't be having this conversation.

edit....this would be a separate replica style of Old comiskey in the same lot the Cell is currently. You just add some skyboxes, take away the poles in the lower deck and you got a gem.
