The Sox just updated the renovation pics on their site. Nothing really new since the last one but they do show a bunch of closeups of the center field concourse.

Things are shaping up quite nicely, all things considered.
From what I can tell from the photos, it looks like you might have pretty good view of downtown from the upper rows of the UD.
Hopefully what going on, on the field, will be more attractive than the skyline, but its still a nice improvement.

I'd like to see some outside shots now that the upper deck screens are in place. Man the concourse up there is infinitely better than it was.

Question.

What happened to the wooden upper deck concourse beams? What did they wrap them in aluminum like a window frame or were those just some temporary things and the new ones are steel?

Does anyone know exactly what the changes to the CF fandeck are? Looks like they're adding a separated patio-type area with tables and that's about it.

Man it's looking nice. Good to see that; can't wait to be back in the Chi; either from May 8-16 or after June 28.

I never had a problem with Comiskey Park. Concrete ballmall you say? **** you I say. It's a BALL-park, not a casino. If you love baseball, have friends and know how to have fone (tm Oz), USCF and the surrounding neighborhood are good enough. If you're a casual fan-loser, you'll get tired of Camden Yards and its novelties after a few games.

Now with renovations, Da Cell's even better. Can't wait 'til the season starts.

Does anyone know if they are going to keep that awful 100 level only rule in place for this season. I would love to check out the center field patio on opening day, but have upperdeck ticket.

If they do keep the rule in place, it's just more evidence that JR is against true fans.

They are keeping the rule in affect. Dont really wanna get into the argument on whether its right or not.

In this summary they mention Kirk McCaskill is on the wall at U.S. Cellular Field. Which wall? I wonder if this is a prestatement of what is going to be on the outfield walls as part of the decoration along with the retired numbers?

Also, can anyone tell if it looks like they put up the balcony for the lower level terrace suite?

There is a picture of him and Karkovice jumping after the 93 clincher on the way up of one of the ramps.

Ok thanks. Now that you mention it, it sounds familiar.

The only thing I'm still not digging about the cell is all that concrete exposure on the sides of the UD.
If you look at it, it's really an eyesore.

Hopefully the HR deck in right next year will block that off, but they still need to do something about it in left.

Other than that, U.S. Cellular Field is looking GREAT!!!!!!! I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product when all the renovations are done. In the meantime, 2004's renovations are wonderful, and the Sox will play like a team worthy of such a beautiful stadium this year. You wait and see.

I like that tag you've got. Do you have any others like it, or where did you get that one from?

Especially with Kansas City in town for opening day. We all know :o: what has happened the last two times.

Hs, I made it myself in Fireworks -- if you want one custom-made, PM me and I can do it. Just let me know which cartoon panels from www.mnftiu.cc to use. Go to the "Get Your War On" section for similar cartoons.

Is that an electronic advertising board on the front of the 1st level rail in the fan deck?

The fan dck has three levels instead of one. This will allow more people to watch the game from the Fan Deck.

I must say, these renovations are spectacular. It's been very exciting coming back to the stadium after the past couple of offseasons and tour the park while keeping an eye out for the new changes. If only they'd allow UD ticket holders to tour the park like actual paying customers instead of second class citizens. But that's a topic for a different thread.

Regardless, the renovations to the Cell this year are so much better than the ones done to the Urinal in Lake View. Those blue and yellow wind socks behind the Urinal's left field section are atrocious! They call that place a shrine, yet they decorate it like a used car salesman's lot. Say what you want about the Sox selling out to a cell phone company, but those bucks are being well spent. Kudos to the design team that has brought new life to the ballpark. I can't wait to see the changes in person!

You can thank us Civil Engineers for that. We design the structures. The company that did it was HKS Inc. I am currently taking a structure analysis class here at school and we talked about the new roof at USCF the other day. I brought it up. THe cantilvered roof is a classy style structure that is actually pretty simple to build in theory. I cant wait to take a graduate level course in Stadium Design. Kick A.S.S.

Looks like they are painting the Iron works gray also? I don't know why they would do that, hopefully just an undercoat rust proofing type deal, I definitely liked them darker. If not they Match the Cement super structure.

I know these pictures are a week behind, however it seems like they still have a lot to get done prior to the first homestand. I noticed that the outside balcony for the left field corner patio area has to be added yet. It looks like they just cut out the wall studs. Hope they make it.
