Reading the Brewers payroll thread has me wondering if some teams might revive the idea of player-managers just to save a few bucks. A fair number of teams during the Depression of the 1930's did just that. Any thoughts?

Ozzie looks like he's still in playing shape. KW, how come you didn't come up with this idea?

Boss, I'm still in playing shape. Think of the $$$ we can save if I make the roster!

What about letting announcers play? I'm still better than Shingo.

I never played the game.

Ugh!
I still remember the sight of Don Kessinger, trying to manage and play shortstop. What little savings there would be wouldn't be worth it.

If the sox went to a player manager format which current player would be the best candidate for the job?

Jose Valentin.

Valentin is a good choice, but I would take Sandy Alomar. Catchers usually make the best managers and he is experienced enough to handle a game
