The Pirates want to move Benson (6.1mm this year - FA next year) ASAP. I'd be interested - for sure. I don't know if we can fit him into this team's self-imposed budget, but if we could, he has a ton of upside and looks to be throwing well so far, 20 months removed from major surgery.

For Paul Konerko, straight swap.

Pitt is trying to dump salary - not take it on. Benson is 6.1 - PK is 9.5 if traded. I don't think that works unless we take on a ton of salary - not likely.

The most likely scenario is Benson to the Orioles. The the Pirates get a RP and a 2B Roberts or Hariston, Jr. from the O's.

The Sox are not looking to add salary either.

Cub Pitching Injury/Bad Pitching and Subsequent Media Uproar over what is wrong with the Flubbies/Sky is Falling Media COverage will lead the CUbs to acquire Kris Benson come May
for another .230 hitting minor leaguer. That team needs
to be Folded

Benson is 29, never been any better than Garland, but makes 3 times as much money. No thanks.

Quote of the day. This guy is Mediocre in a Mediocre League.
Something that KW shouldve considered when he gave the farm up for Todd .500 Ritchie. Also, these are the Pirates, were not indebted to give them good players. ask jim hendry

That's simply not true. Benson has produced big time in the majors. He just hasn't been the same because of injury.

In 2000 he did pretty well for himself. Since then he's been bad and had injuries. However, he's got a year left on his contract. Have Pitt eat half or more of it, and it's not I doubt they'll ask for a lot for him. He's also supposed to be "the guy" down at Pitt; a lot less pressure on him if he is only the number 5 guy.

I'd do it if we don't give up too much. Depth isn't a bad thing, at his price it is, but again, If you can get Pitt to eat some of the salary then we can do this.
