Mute them and listen to Rooney and Farmer. That way, R&F's habit of not announcing the score isn't too bad.

From what I understand Carlos Zambrano and Dan Wright were pencilled in to start.

NO BIG DEAL: Guillen didn't want to make too much about today's sold-out game in Mesa between the White Sox and Cubs, the first of two meetings the teams will have this spring.

"To me it's another game,'' he said. "I'm just happy to go see Dusty Baker. I'm going to see Derrek Lee and [Todd] Hollandsworth. They were with me last year [at Florida] and I'm looking forward to seeing those guys.''

Sox regulars expected to make the trip include Willie Harris, Valentin, Konerko, Aaron Rowand and Miguel Olivo, along with starter Dan Wright. - Sun-Times

Seeing blue

Today's meeting with the Cubs in Mesa isn't just another Cactus League game on the Sox's schedule.

"Anytime we play the Cubs there's extra incentive to go out there and give a little bit more just because it is the Cubs," center fielder Aaron Rowand said. "It's a great rivalry. Over the last couple of years, we've been the second-class citizens in the city, and with them making the playoffs last year, I'm sure it's going to be even that much more this year.

"It isn't like we hate each other, though. It's not like what goes on with the fans. It's bragging rights more than anything. I know I have friends on their team, and so do a lot of other guys, but there's definitely bragging rights on the line." - Daily Herald.

That would be fantastic. Hopefully Prior and Wood will be healthy when we play them in the regular season. Love to sweep or at least take 2 series from the team with the best pitching in the history of baseball.

It's a no win for Sox fans here. If the Sox lose, it will be all over the papers tomorrow how the Cubs are winning the World Series. If the Sox win, it's just a Spring Training game. Forget them though. I'm pumped.

You're right! It's much the same in the regular season though. Remember Socrates Baker & Santo when the Sox won the Friday game at The Cell?

If the Cubbies win, it'll be proof of their sheer dominance. If the Cubbies lose, it will be a game that matters only to Sox fans.

Obviously, the game today does not matter. But beating the Cubbies is always fun, regular season or preseason.

And the Sox have a bunch of guys in that are not starters - just said they pulled Olivo for Rivera (?). And yes, it sure does look like the Scrub opening day lineup on the field.

But the ex-Scrub Gload goes deep anyhow for a quick 2-0 lead!!!

From the play-by-play description, I believe the ball caught the top of the wall, hit Alou's glove and went over the fence for a ground rule double.

I know he hit a homer earlier in the game. I saw that. I don't want him swinging for the fences every time he's up. All he needed was a base hit to drive in the tying run, and he looked completely tight. Strike two was a swing at a pitch a foot over his head, and the ground out was on a pitch inside and below his knees. If he can settle down in pressure situations, he'll be fine. I didn't like his approach in that 9th inning though.

You weren't the only one that wondered this:

From the Cubune:

Maybe it was just a coincidence, but Neal Cotts drilled the Cubs' Nic Jackson with a pitch a couple innings after Jackson went hard into second baseman Willie Harris on a force-out.

Also from the Cubune about Crede's daughter:

Crede's daughter OK

Guillen said Joe Crede's daughter, Anna, is doing well after being hit with a foul ball Friday. "I think they have to wake her every two, three hours, but everything is OK," said Guillen, who gave Crede Saturday off.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this already, but my biggest beef with how the Sox played yesterday was that they left 10 runners on base. Look...I know it's only spring training and most of the kids who played will never see U.S. Cellular Field other than on TV, but you don't deserve to win when you have runners on base with less than 2 outs and don't bring them in. The Sox could've won if they brought home at least 2 of those 10 runners. The pitching, other than that Vandessberg (SP?) guy wasn't bad at all. Wright was solid, and even Neal Cotts threw pretty well. That middle reliever cost the Sox the game, but the "swing for the fences" lineup also cost the Sox.

I saw several situations when the Sox could've either placed down a single, or Ozzie's favorite...A BUNT...to move runners over. What happened to that rant Ozzie gave at his press conference that made the media oogle in hopes of a Frank vs. Ozzie WrestleMania match? Hey Ozzie...I'm willing to give you a chance and all...but live up to your own hype or keep your mouth shut.
