I think Loaiza will be just fine this year... he won't threaten the Cy Young again but the guy has learned how to pitch and seems to have a head on his shoulders. Better late than never, and I think the past is long gone for him.

I never understood everyones beef with Rowand. I understand losing Everett was rough, but what exactly did Everett do for us?
Most of his damage was done for the Rangers last year. Plus he was slow as $hit in the outfield. I think Rowand will run through a wall to catch a ball this year, plus he's got the hot bat! I know he is bound to cool down, but I still thinks he adds better defense and better offense than Everett did last year

Rowand's biggest issue on defense is that he "drifts" back on deep flyballs, rather that sprinting back to a spot getting under it. With runner's on base, it is especially important to get yourself into throwing position behind the ball. He is a balls out player though, you can't knock his work ethic.

Who knows what Rowand would have done last year if he didn't wipe out. There is no reason Rowand shouldn't have a good year. He was coming around last year, when the Sox traded for Everett. Also, isn't Pauly "Double Play" Konerko usually "Mr. Spring"?

What about leadoff? That way Carlos couls still bat 2nd and I have absolutely no faith in Harris at the leadoff spot when and if we make the playoffs. Rowand seems to be made of stronger stuff, even if he isn't ideally suited to the spot.

I know. Much as I hate to say it, trading Lee for pitching could be in the Sox's best interest. More money for Maggs maybe, and between Rowand, Reed, Borchard (*fingers crossed*) and all the "great" OF prospects, it might be a good move.

As far as trading Lee for Starting Pitching... that's retarded, if Magglio Flees next spring then we'll have nothing in the outfield. Not to mention I think Lee is on the verge of becomming something VERY special. I always thought he was a Poor Man's Manny Ramirez, at least until I saw Ramirez play the out field I think Carlos looks like a gold glove rout there compaired to Manny, and I think this could be a HUGE YEAR for LEE...

I say leave the team how it is, add or subtract later if needed.

Trading Lee would be not smart. I would trade Ordonez over Lee...IF BORCHARD AND/OR REED are hitting in the minors. I don't think Uncle Jerry is going to pony up the 12 million per it's going to take to keep Ordonez.

Yeah. Either way, somebody's gotta go and our pitching is in a truly terrible condition. Actually, I would really not want to lose Reed simply because he could fill the top of the order, a hole we've had as long as I can remember.

Is that the 3d or 4th straight ST outing that Kochsucher has been fairly effective? Nice to see.

Any word on his speed? If he's starting to add 1-2MPH, that's an even better sign that he can get back to his old 97-99 by the end of the month. If he's back to his '02 performance, that's huge for this team (and yet another sign that the change in karma brought about by the Manuel-Guillen changeover is occurring!)

Sammy has a players option for 18mm. He will take it - he won't get any more than that in this market. As far as Beltran or Maggs, yes, I am very much convinced that Beltran gets more than Maggs. He is a good defensive CF, he steals bases, and he is about 3 years younger than Magglio. I am guessing Maggs gets around 11-12 and Beltran gets 13-14.

I'll add my .02 on the Maggs-Beltran discussion. Beltran is going to get a lot more than Maggs in the FA market next year. I don't think it's any coincedence that the Jankees opted to give a decrepit Kenny Lofton a one-year deal to keep CF warm until Beltran can either a) be signed as a FA or b) acquired in a trade.

Maggs is great, but Beltran a) plays a tougher position (and plays it better) b) steals a ton of bases and c) is a switch hitter.

If only he were a bargain-basement grinder.

Sammy getting 18 million is criminal. If he was a free agent, he would be lucky to get 12 on the open market right now. Maybe less after this steriod stuff really breaks. Plus, he is getting up there in age and his production is declining, and he is a liability in the outfield.

The funny thing is...

After his contract is up next year - the cubs will resign him - at age 37, to another 3 year deal for about 15mm per. They know that their "great fans" would go crazy if roidboy wasn't there to "put on a show" for them.

A few points....

Granted it's early, but Shingo is looking more like a big zero, then Mr. Zero. Urbina, meanwhile who'd like to play for Ozzie still waits by the phone.

The next time anybody complains about any Chicago announcers even Chip Caray, they need to be reminded about what we had to put up with the last two days on the internet. Randle and McCray were brutal...Jerry Coleman of the Padres is senile. Can you imagine having to listen to him all year ? At least Harry Caray had an excuse for being senile at the end, he had a stroke.

and finally remember what the wise man said..."winning is fun, fun is winning."

Guess we haven't had any fun since Monday!

Just wondering...

Are the Sox trying to win, or hold down the payroll? Urbina is a bona fide major league pitcher with over 200 saves to his credit.

Shingo is a large question mark that may or may not work out. Plus add to this the fact that according to the story in the Florida Sun Sentinal, Urbina would actually like to pitch for the Sox and to me it's foolish for the organization not to seriously look at it.

But of course, with Politte, Shingo and Ginter, who needs any help?

Lip
