Here are some of the better prospects for each of the discussed/rumored trade parties that the Sox were supposed to be involved with. Perhaps being able to get rid of some salaries [see: Konerko, Koch] and pick up any one of these prospects would be a coup.

Los Angeles Dodgers
-Greg Miller and Edwin Jackson, obviously

Anaheim Angels
#10 Ervin Santana, RHP
-One of the most electric arms in minors
-95+ mph fastball; nasty slider; changeup still developing/improving
-Ranks behind only Greinke and Jackson in RHP

#38 Alberto Callaspo, 2B
-Great contact hitter, total of only 42 K's in two seasons (813 AB)
-Speed and gap power (38 doubles in 2003)
-Good defense, possibility to play SS
-#'s resemble Rod Carew at points in career

#18 Jeff Mathis, C
-Equal to or better power than Bauer
-Increasing defensive force; former MIF
-Incredible leadership abilities

New York Mets
#14 Scott Kazmir, LHP
-6'0", 170lb, mid-90s flamerthrower w/ good slider and offspeed pitch
-Fluid, easy motion that doesn't appear to put strain on his arm
-Power left handed pitching w/ excellent control

#55 Matt Peterson, RHP
-Throws hard and has good complementary stuff
-When not frustrated, literally untouchable
-'04 in AA

#71 Justin Huber, C
-Good offensive catcher; average and great power
-Average defensively, not a solid pitch caller

Seattle Mariners
#26 Clint Nageotte, RHP
-Best slider in the minors, plus fastball
-Development of changeup = MLB starting rotation spot

#26 Travis Blackley, LHP SEA
-Australian w/ < 5 years of experience-
-High 80's fastball, nasty curveball, effective change

#43 Jose Lopez, SS
-19-year old SS with 35 doubles and 13 homers in AA for '03
-Doesn't take BB's, but great contact hitter
-2B/SS prospect
