I suppose this is old news ( really old actually ) , but I remember reading something in the Sun-Times a couple months ago about the Cubs throwing the 1918 world series . They then added that because of this suspicions had been raised and the added scrutiny led to the 1919 Sox getting caught . Is there any real evidence of this ( witnesses , confessions , ect..) or is it just conjecture .

1918 was the last time an American League team (Boston) won the World Series in Comiskey Park. Wrigley Field (Weeghman Park at the time) only held 18,000, Comiskey held 28,800, so the Cubs were forced to play their home games there.

From what I remember, I think somebody a couple fo years ago wrote a book about the Red Sox and the 1918 World Series and did suggest that the series was thrown by the Cubs. Besides that, I don't know of any other claims.

Hmmmm, I know the Cubbies get special treatment around these parts, but I don't understand why this hasn't been mentioned more often. Personally, I have never heard anything like this in my life. Although if it is true, just more material for me to silence those crazy Cub fans.

Because it will never be proven like the 1919 Black Sox Scandal through court cases and signed confessions etc.

1918 Red Sox (http://www.1918redsox.com/)

This is the first I've ever heard of the 1918 World Series being fixed. I think it's something that a sportswriter dreamed up to get into the newspapers.

I did hear the 1919 Black Sox scandal broke while the Chicago Cubs were being investigated for throwing games with the Phillies in 1920, and it opened up the whole can of worms.

Also the 1920 White Sox were fighting for the AL Pennant, determined to get back the World Series Title that they were "double crossed" out of during the '19 Series. In September the gamblers threatened to "blow the whistle" on the Sox about the fixed World Series if they didn't lay down and let the Tigers win the 1920 AL Pennant.

Once the word was leaked to the press about the 1919 scandal, the 7 remaining Black Sox in 1920 were suspended indefinitely, and sat out the remainder of the season. The 1920 White Sox lost the Pennant by 2 games!!
