KW usually has a huge trade or signing pickup as Soxfest kicks in as previous years...Is it me or do you feel a surprise on the :?: horizon??????

No suprises. I'll go to bed 6 more times wishing I had the money to buy the Sox out from under JR.

Real quick question, are SoxFest tickets still available? I tried looking on the website and I couldn't get onto the SoxFest part of it.

I think the Sox will eventually make a move. I feel Kenny has something left to do...

i think maddux is ours- i dont buy into WE ARE OVER OUR BUDGET.
kw hates to let things leak so it seems nothing will happen, so that means it will.

I honestly wouldn't mind Maddux, HOWEVER, the big announcement will be the return of the urinal trough to The Cell.

MR KITTLE you just dont seem to like my opinions, youve often critisized me.
i know i love the sox. do you?
i simply think this team is the greatest, call it optomistic, the glass is half FULL, or whatever.
I believe, i have faith, and im realistic.

you live in wrigleyville, id advise you to leave soon move south, that stench from wiggly field is effecting your brain.

im joking guy- you have a right to disagree,
but what do you find good about the sox?

I think the move was Shingo. If anything else happens, it most likely will involve Konerko or Maggs to the Dodgers if desperation becomes unbearable and have to succumb to KW demands. Probably won't happen, but that's the only thing I see as a possibilty. However, I most definitely could be wrong.

Isn't the whole "big deal just before Soxfest" thing a bit of a myth. We signed Kenny Lofton a few years ago right as Soxfest was kicking off. Other than that, what other big deals/signings have taken place just before Soxfest?

I love the Sox more than just about anything. I am just the average disgruntled Sox fan. Maybe I'm a little more disgruntled than some, but I've been a jaded cynic my whole life, anyway.

I just haven't seen any real reason to be optimistic lately, have you? The last time I felt any optimism was after Konerko and Thomas homered in the 9th and in extra innings, respectively, to beat the Twins. That optimism was shattered quickly, as I am sure everyone remembers.

So it's not like I never "believe." And it's not like I'm going to stop going to my usual insane amount of games, most likely. Reading back over this post, I realize I haven't really made any point, so I'll just stop there. In the case of Sox fans, cynicism, most often, equals realism.

Kenny Lofton,Colon-a few weeks before Soxfest, Kevin Tapani, Albert Bell--I think.

Maddux on the Sox. HA! Fat chance. We have a better chance of getting Colon or Alomar back on the team.

Nothing will happen before SoxFest, and ifsomething does, (which I don't think it will) it will probably be a trade.

I think we have to face the fact that Maddux is just jerking the Cubs around trying to get more money, he will sign with the Cubs. But that's just me.

Not too sure if you can get them from the Sox site still, I have seen some on eBay however.

Do they still make Falstaff? I would much rather see them sponsored by Meister Brau, but they might be out of business as well.

Doesn't surprise me that reps from the White Sox would say that. Doesn't matter though. I'm sticking to my guns and NOT wasting any money anymore on the White Sox until JR sells and/or the team is worth what I spend on them everytime I go to the ballpark.

Initially he said NL only. When he realized he might have to be a little more open if he wants the big payday, he loosened up a bit. I still think he ends up in SFO or STL. In any case, we aren't going to spend the 8-10mm per for two years that it would take to get Maddux - so why bother thinking about it?

I know whats Going to Happen BEFORE SoxFest. As someone
predicted already here, that other team up north will
sign Greg Maddux, Mike Kiley will pee his pants, and every Media Outlet in Chicago will pack thier things and broadcast/report live from Wrigley Field (the Original Team to sell its name out) for the Week, thereby denying the SOX of Valuable Media Exposure
once again.

Maybe he'll divulge the names of the rest of the players that haven't called him back...?

We do a good enough job denying ourselvees of media exposure.

If JR/KW want to do something to keep us in the papers, let them go ahead and do it. Hangar, do you blame the media, right now, for not covering us? What have we done to warrant more coverage this offseason? Shingo, Uribe and Marvin Bernard?

Good Point. But what have the Cubs done the last 15 -20 years to warrant so Much More Attention? Theyve had a Worse Record than us, Have had so much player turnover from season to season, Theyve Actually Changed the Date they Take Their
Official Team Picture to September !!!!! talk about embarrassing. But............That didnt stop the Media from keeping them in the public eye, and making them so gosh
darn lovable, and telling us why its Important to Attend these
Games. This is the 1st time in 20 something years, that I can remember the Cubs being "worthy" of media attention, and theyre getting it. Your forgetting one thing......Its not like the Media will cover them favorably, and Us favorably.

The Media has shown they CANNOT cover both teams Equally and be Biased (something that is a Cardinal Rule in Journalism) Its Either ONE or the OTHER when it comes to MEdia Sensationalism in Chicago. Nobody told them yet, that its OK to cover BOTH teams Equally. They see easy stories about Goats, Toothpicks,
cute children who run around the clubhouse, Curses, Bums and Tourists. As Ive said long before, the cub "popularity" is BECAUSE of the Media Coverage, not in Spite of it.
And its All been At our expense

Instead of IGNORING the SOX completely and Turning their attention towards the other team on the opposite side of town,
Why Wont The Media INSTEAD, Write THREE or FOUR TIMES
AS MANY ARTICLES RIPPING ON SOX MGMT For Letting this team flounder when we couldve plugged a few of the Holes and Went for it this year?

WHere are these articles ?? This team should be
LAMBASTED publicly for pulling this stunt, after 1.9 Million
showed .......Mostly AFTER the All-Star Break to Support the
Team. And this is the Thanks We Get? SOX Fans Get
"Treated" to Dinner by Uncle Jerry, But he Then slips out
thru the Kitchen, and Leaves Us with the Bill.
Call this Team Out.
Mariotti should be having a Blast right now.....He can Rip JR a New One, and this Organization, and Be Timely and Right On the Money about it ...............

That's not quite true. They are the only team in MLB that's dumb enough to have a corporate name on their ballpark and not get any money from it.

I'm sure the Wrigley Gum corporation loves all the FREE advertising they get when people mention the staduim.

US Cellular had to pay for it...

Where is The Grobber when we need him? Les would tell us that Wrigley Field is not named after Wrigley Chewing Gum, but after Wm. Wrigley. I think that's silly - since Wrigley Chewing Gum is named after Wm Wrigley. But that, I think, is what Grobber would tell us.

Allow me to fill in for the Grobber. A lot of stadiums used to be named after team owners years ago. Wrigley Field, Comiskey Park, Ebbets Field etc........that is the genesis of the name.

These corporate sponsorship things aren't neccessarily a recent innovation either. In the Federal League, the Brooklyn entity was owned by a gentleman who was the owner of The Tip-Top Baking Company as well. He named his team The Brooklyn Tip-Tops - and the media of the day (1914) was so infuriated at the blatant commercialism that they never referred to them by that monicker.

:farmer

"The Tip-Tops played in Washington Park in Brooklyn. I know that because the Dodgers played in Washington - the park - not the state or the district - right up until Ebbets Field, named after the owner - the Ebbets part, not the Field part, although if they had teamed up with the large Chicago merchandising family in order to own the Dodgers it could have been called Ebbets Fields, but then people in Brooklyn would have thought that there were more than one of them - just like those two twin brothers Rogers Hornsby......."

:hawk

"Yessir............Mercy. The first Roger Hornsby used to come at you from the right side of the - could spray the ball all over. His brother Roger Hornsby was a strapping portsider who could reach the right field seats at Ol' Ebbets Fields with a check swing. Together they were one of the best hitters I've ever seen. I remember one time when both Stanley and Harry Coveleski were on the mound facing these two guys..............."
