Looks like we can be thankful Loaiza didn't win the Cy Young, after all.

Halladay is really deserving of this $$. Look at his numbers the past 3 years. 266 IP last season when he won Cy Young w/ 3.25 ERA

All the more reason to sign Esteban long term now before he proves last year was no fluke. Tear up this year's contract and sign him to three with a club option for the 4th.

At his point, he'd have to be looking for something like in between Ponson money (3/$22.5M) and Halladay money (4/$42M). Any chance the Sox will commit to that much?

Not with Jerry owning the team. See Navarro, Jaime and Richie, Todd for examples why.

Personally, I don't see ELo ending up like these guys, but Reinsdorf has been too much of a coward when it comes to pitchers after these two failures.

After re-reading the ESPN.com story, what's more interesting is that the Blue Jays covered TWO years of arbitration eligibility with this deal. Halladay was shooting for the moon with his arb. figure of $9M, while the Jays were offering $6.5M. IIRC, he's getting $6M for 2004, $10.5M for 2005, $12.6M for 2006, & $12.9M for 2007.
