From the AP:

TOKYO -- Kazuhiro Sasaki has decided to leave the Seattle Mariners to stay home in Japan with his family.

The right-handed closer told team officials he won't pitch for Seattle or any other major league team in 2004. He wants to forfeit the final year of his contract and remain at home in Japan.

There's talk that, with the payroll this frees up (9.5M), the Ms could be looking to make a trade for power, so they're now on the list of places Maggs could go to free up payroll for us.

This is at least good news for those of us who drafted Eddie Guardado in fantasy leagues.

They don't need a relief pitcher. Guardado replaced Sasaki, and they've got an excellent setup guy already.
