The steelworkers are making great progress. The frame for the new roof and UD concourse enclosure is quickly expanding.

No, but I will as soon as somebody buys me a digital camera or a scanner . . . and a home computer to plug them into. :D:

I'm low tech guy. Don't even own a cell phone.

I drove by a day or two ago, My Fiancee' made a wrong turn and I got to see Comiskey... I wasn't upset at all. They have either one or two of the posts up for the roof . It looks like a big upside down "L" facing the field. Nothing else visable has changed since the Pictures on the White Sox, Website had posted pictures over a month ago... My guess is that they don't have a digital Camera, Scanner or Computer either... the diference is they are LOW BUDGET guys

Only 3 months to the season opener. Lets get this Park looking sharp. I believe it will be one of the best when the 2005 season begins.

We may not have a good team, but we will have a great park!

That's the same attitude that got the Cubs within five out of the world series last year... I say we run with it!

I didn't want to say anything in case BeerHandle meant to put that in teal.

There are more like eight up now, in addition to cross-beams, facing, etc. Like I said, they're really flying with the steel work.

Well, that's assuming at some point they open the entrance right there at 35th and Shields. The way it is set up for riders of the El right now is pretty lame compare to what they could do down there in the LF corner...

A new "grand entrance" is supposed to be built in the LF corner where a pedestrian ramp currently resides in the '04-'05 offseason.

I understand that, but it's AT LEAST a year a way if they don't change the plans. That bland and uninhabited corner as it is now is lame. "Grand Entrace" with a big bar area overlooking the field...

Sounds good to me.

I really hope they do that. At the time they had the renaming press conference, JR said that USCF would be renovated to be a "World Class" ballpark. To me, it won't be that without the "Grand Entrance". As for the bar part of it, I'm hoping that it will overlook the field and maybe they can create it so that it also gives you a good look at the skyline, and be open all-year round. Maybe one of those Fridays can go in there or a Shoeless Joes? :?:

Yeah, but at the time he bought the Sox, he said they'd become a 'world class' organization, too.

I think they're building an extra 'level' over the left field seats too. I don't think they are stands, but just an area to hang out. Kind of cuts into the crowds milling around the councourse area too I would think. Who knows? If they have another season ticket holder party I guess I'll know more then.

The Sox are "World Class" at something..... as an example of how NOT to run a baseball team in a town/state that has more than one team.

Oy..........well yeah, I know that. But, also, ther are more people involved in this than just JR, so hopefully what he says this time will be done. I think it's been great what they have done to the park over the last few years. The park has really been warmed up. And the new roof looks like it's going to be a cool addition. Just hopefully they continue.

I've heard aobut the "Grand Entrance" idea but don't recall a propsoed big bar area overlooking the field. Is that something you're just hoping for, or have that Sox said that that is part of the plan?

I'm not sure what Randar knows, but I remember previously on the HKS website, that they had mentioned a Kidzone in left field and a 3-story restaurant. They've got to do somehting like that, all of the new parks have some type of bar/restaurant in them. If they sdon't it would actually be a shame. :(:

It appears that the steelwork on the new roof will be significantly more ornate than the simple frame shown in this picture. Also, the ramp in this picture is the existing structure. The plans for the "Grand Entrance" were much more involved. Hopefully, they get that done next offseason.

Good. Part of me hopes that everybody who swears they won't go actually won't, it would be nice to have the park not be full of extreme negativity once in a while.

I've always been a fan of the architecture and design of Rangers' Ballpark in Arlington, especially the brick and wrought iron.

But these pics of the renovations in progress at USCF demonstrate that the designers really are giving the once-sterile but looming exterior a definite fix. That is, the renovations are shaping up to make USCF look both classic and modern and less imposing.

I am salivating at the prospect of attending a few games this summer when I make my annual trip back home to Chicago.

This is one thing that the ownership group is doing right. Perhaps when the renovations are done, Reinsdorf really will sell the Sox to Donald Trump!

Thanks, DrCrawdad, for the pics.

Frater,

The UD changes at The Cell will dramatically alter the look of the field - both from the inside and outside. As you mentioned, I think it will be only for the better.

When you look closely at the photo from westside the 37th St. viaduct, you'll notice the arch inspired front of the new roof overhang. Check out the attached photo:

Yeah these changes to the park are dramatic. Even seeing the pics, I don't know if we'll really realize how dramatic until we're actually in the park watching a game.
