More heartstirring news southsiders! Bob Nightengale is reporting that the Sox will still be able "to build an All-Star team" by picking up ex-flub (and lover of flamboyant gloves) Julian Tavarez. Now I know that we need righties for the 'pen and I know that you necessarily have to spend a lot on relievers to get quality, but Tavarez and Polite? C'mon this is just ridiculous!

Polite should be fine, Tavarez will hopefully not embarras himself and I do think that Danny Wright will shine in the pen next year, but I am not likin' the looks of things, even in the AL Central if this is our level of commitment.

Julian Tavarez a White Sox, YUCK!

Williams said he also will sign another veteran to fill the holes left by Tom Gordon and Scott Sullivan.

Maybe Tavarez is whom they are referring to.

I'd like to see KW keep headcases like Tavarez out of the Sox lockerroom if at all possible. The chemistry in there seems to be fragile to begin with, and it could be a ticking timebomb with El Capitan as the new skipper.

no julian tavarez. he wouldnt fit into long relief, where rhp matt ginter and rhp dan wright are in place, and with the "cliffhanger" in the bullpen tavarez does not feel like a good fit

Can't say that I saw Jullian pitch last year. A cursory look at the numbers presented in the link, it seems like he did well. Hope he has one helluva year for the Cardinals.

From rotoworld...

The Cards are definitely overpaying here. We'd rather take our chances with either Terry Adams or Cliff Politte over Tavarez, who has a career 4.52 ERA and a 1.49 WHIP. He'll probably be decent since he'll be working in front of one of the game's better infields, but there was no reason to give him the second year.

Thank God! Tavarez is a bigoted jerk and if he would have been signed it would have been the only player in the history of the Sox that I HATE.
