I just got this in an email from a friend...

Have you heard the latest buzz about the seemingly dead
Manny-for-A-Rod, Nomar-for-Ordonez blockbuster deal? According to several fan message boards, including sonsofsamhorn.com and bostondirtdogs.com, the official team sites of the Red Sox, Rangers, and White Sox all changed their flags at the top of their sites within an hour of each other at about 2 a.m. today, removing images of the aforementioned players. Spooky!Connspiracy!
What do you think is going on???

I don't think it's been anything but those pictures of the field for weeks.

That's what I was going to say. I don't remember exactly what it used to be but I know I don't remember seeing Maggs up there at any point in time...

I think what is more "spooky" is seeing Uribe on the lead page on the White Sox site! :)

It's spooking me out of buying any tickets come March.

it is somewhat odd that boston's page has pedro, david ortiz, wakefield, and lowe on it but not ramirez or nomar.

though i don't think too much can be read in to that.

oh but wait, the immortal odalis perez isn't pictured on LA's site either! hmm, something must be up

You know, I'll bet this has been a PR nightmare for the redsox. Here they go out and get a stud like Schilling and then end up 'disapointing' because they didn't get AROD.

I think it works much better than OUR PR nightmare...

Ok this is how goofy it is here in Beantown today

WEEI spent the better part of the morning talking about Manny and Nomar vanishing from the masthead.

mind you we are 72 hours removed from a NFL playoff game, Vin Baker gets suspended by the Celtics but no....it is all Red Soxall the time

we are sick sick sick

The boards have been humming all day and now the Boston Globe site is at it

http://www.boston.com/sports/message_board/redsox/010704/msg1.shtml

best message I have seen so far is this one

I wish I had those kind of nightmares - being stuck with Schilling, Nomar and Manny.

Boston's biggest problem right now is Nomar. I believe he will be gone before Opening Day if they can not sign him for 2005 and beyond.

Cabrera will be available for 2005 and for a lot less money than Nomar wants but I have a feeling the ARod mess will heat up again as Gammons is saying on local radio here that Arod wants out of Texas in the worse way.

Gammons BTW will be performing with his rock band on Sunday at a local club along with bass player Theo Epstein. Gammons and his band sung Sunday night on CBS4 and he wasn't that bad.

That is scary. What songs (or types of songs) was he singing? I can't really see him busting out with Nirvana.

Yeah, and the bizarre part is that Boston GM Theo Epstein is also in it. Shouldn't there be a law against this? No word if Bill James plays drums with them.

Probably some kind of jingle about how great boston is or maybe it was a World Series shuffle.

AND HE CAN SING: baseball scribe Peter Gammons acquits himself honorably on Chuck Berry's 'Carol' and Eddie Cochran's 'Summertime Blues.'

Red Sox GM Theo Epstein says he was less nervous at his first press conference than he was playing his first 'Hot Stove, Cool Music' show.

OK bannergate is over

from the Boston Herald

http://redsox.bostonherald.com/redSox/redSox.bg?articleid=463

"Conspiracy buffs were undoubtedly let down early last night with the return of Nomar Garciaparra [stats, news] and Manny Ramirez [stats, news] to the masthead of the redsox.com Web site. As part of an mlb.com-prompted overhaul, the site was revamped Tuesday, with the images of Garciaparra and Ramirez being replaced by Curt Schilling and David Ortiz [stats, news]. The Red Sox were deluged with inquiries as to whether the overhaul was a message about future happenings.

It wasn't, although the club acknowledged that it had approved the Ramirez- and Garciaparra-less look when it was shown to them by mlb.com."

BUT

Peter Gammons was on WAAF 107.3 FM (plugging the Hot Stove music event) this morning and informed the Hillman Morning Show that A-Rod has been working all week on the trade, again. Greg Hill asked if that was a new break in the current information, he confirmed it was. He said Alex was not talking to the Sox, because he isn't allowed to, but confirmed that A-Rod was working on getting the deal back to the table and trying to get everyone to consider it again!
