Colon's four-year deal is worth $51 million. It includes an $8 million signing bonus and salaries of $9 million in 2004, $8 million in 2005, $12 million in 2006 and $14 million in 2007. Frankly, Congrats to Kenny. I am glad he didn't get baited into matching/outbidding this deal. 4/51 and some possible incentives to boot? I am sorry - that is just too much money for Colon.

My thoughts exactly. Only time will tell if this was as big a mistake as passing on Clemens for Navarro...

I'm sure he'll be good. I highly doubt he'll be worth almost $13 million a year for 4 years, I'm not sure there's a player in baseball who's worth that much. Especially for a pitcher, and especially with his conditioning (or lack thereof), going 4 years on him is a huge risk that could horribly backfire, and I'm glad we didn't do it.

The Angels have a new owner, he wants to win. Good for him. We'll see what kind of free agents he's signing in 2 years when he's lost a ton of money and has huge contracts to deal with.
