View Full Version : Biggest Sox Needs?

Given the current roster as we know it, what do folks think our biggest areas of concern are for off-season acquisitions?

My guess is that Sox biggest needs to fill at this point are:

1) One Solid Starting Pitcher
2) Center Fielder FYI -I liked Carl Everett at the plate, but his D was atrocious and that's giving him the benefit of the doubt.
3) Second Baseman
4) Shortstop
5) Another Starting Pitcher/Bullpen help
6) Possibly 1B/DH depending on what happens with Konerko

I think we are solid at 1st, 3rd, Right, Left, Catcher, Starting Rotation (assuming our #1 need is addressed satisfactorily). I bet we could address 2 and 3 with Roberto and Kenny Loften pretty cheap.

I would put it in this order

1.) New Owner
2.)Second Base
3.)Ace for the staff
4.)New GM
5.) Bull pen help
6.) Centerfielder

Pretty much the most important things to win... we need!

Great list...I would add only one thing:

7.) New Manager

7.) New Manager

Because of all the obviously horrendous moves he's made so far.

Again can we wait until January at least to start the sky is falling routine?

I was waiting until December 14th but I'm pretty sure by then the Sky will have already fallen!

I actually hear that the Yankees and Boston are in a bidding war for him.

You mean like calling out his best players in his opening press conference??? Great start, Ozzie! This guy is a disaster waiting to happen. I will gladly retract my words and apologize publicly on this board if I am wrong, but I am not going to be holding my breath...

(1) Top of the rotation starter
(2) Bottom of the rotation starter
(3) Lead off man who can play either 2B or CF
(4) Right handed set up man
(5) Left handed bat w/some pop off the bench

And you can forget about Roberto or Lofton. The Sox didn't offer Robbie arbitration, so they can't negotiate with him until May 1 - he, obviously, will be playing for someone else by that time. And I've repeatedly heard that Lofton was considered a bad influence/clubhouse guy when he was here, so I doubt they'd bring him back.

1. We Had Colon and let him go ....
2. We wouldnt sign Kenny Rogers
3. Kaz Matsui was out there.....
4. We Let Gordon & Sullivan go ....
5. We Had Brian Daubach and let him go ......

This team seems to be Filling the Holes THEY themselves
Created, Instead of Just Filling the Holes they Have .....

I don't disagree (although I don't think it would have been smart to beat the Angels offer to Colon). Losing Sullivan, especially to the Royals, hurts. And I think Daubach was a good fit, too. My fear is that KW will wait to long to pull the trigger on some deals and will see his best options turn elsewhere. I'm trying to be patient, as there is a lot of off season to go (and a lot of available talent out there), but I'm getting itchy.

I know it's hard to fathom, but Kenny has a plan in order. We just haven't seen it yet. Kenny has plans in order for two years down the road. Every guy the Sox let go they have a plan to make up for it. We'll just have to wait and see the plan unfold.

Why do I get the feeling with each passing day that this is Kenny's plan:

WHINING about how I dont have a car anymore, I need to get a car, would anyone Feel sorry for me? heck no. most would Ask why did i plow my vehicle into a tree, knowing I NEEDED it to get to work etc etc. This Sox Situation of HandCuffing themselves with this "payroll" is getting old hat

I agree. The only thing that sucked about Daubach was knowing he sat on the bench for the whole first half watching Konerko blow up. Sullivan would have been fairly inexpensive and would have given some depth to a bullpen riding on Wunsch and Marte.
