I know he's been injureed for the past three years, but he had Tommy John in 2002... but if we can get him for cheap I think he could be a nice pick up!

Is he still around?!?! What's his contract status? Does he even have a contract status? :?:

he was just non-tenderd by the O's

Three years of injuries is a hell of a lot to overcome to get back to the kind of form he had about 10 yrs ago. Still, he might be a useful pickup. Bullpen?

No harm in bringing him to spring training as a NRI.

This is just a terrible idea.

Why is this such a bad idea? We need to catch lightning in a bottle and for cheap, this would seem like a good place to start... I doubt there will be little if any interest in Erickson and he was an ACE before he wen't down... The Yankee's are doing it with Lieber, why can't we give it a try with Scott?

This is not such a bad idea and could provide Loaiza like results. Tommy John surgery often leads to at least 3 years of recovery time in alot of pitchers. While a player may be back on a mound throwing 1 1/2 years later it usually takes 3 years to get back to form mentally and physically. Tom Gordon and even Kerry Wood took roughly 3 years to get back to comparable form. Often the success of the surgery leads to further complications in the shoulder etc because a pitcher is now throwing with a strong elbow causing changes in his mechanics, or other lesser injuries become exacerbated because the elbow overwhelmed them before. I would know I've had the surgery. Signing Erickson to a minor league deal or having him come to camp as a non roster invitee as we did with Loiza last year would not hurt the sox and could provide another coup.

Sterling Hitchcock is out there as well

I'd take Erickson over Boomer Wells any day.

I would like to think that with all the talent Erickson had when healthy that the guy would be a good bet to comeback strong. Nothing wrong with an incentive type contract.

I'd rather have Tommy John.

No to Scott. He's got some very bad habits we don't want on this team....

Any chance of getting Ponson, steff?

I know he's been injureed for the past three years

Any time a question starts with that phrase - I lose interest quickly.

Only if his lady (Lisa Guerrero from MNF) joins the male fans in the shower out in left field! :D:

Steff, Please enlighten me/us. I am not aware of what the "bad habits" are. Thanks!

Signing Erickson to a minimal deal is a higher risk-reward proposition than Loaiza was a year ago.

Erickson has a higher ceiling for comeback success, but there is more risk because of the injury.

I say go for it if it is not too expensive.

If he flips buffet tables and refers to teammates as "b****es", he's KW's kind of guy :D:

They're talking, but nothing definite. Honestly he thinks he'll be back in Baltimore.

If we get Freddy Garcia, they'd go perfect together, right? I didn't know about Erickson being a :gulp:er...

I think he started having troubles with drinking and the law when he was with the Twins. I seem to remember that when I lived there.
