I like the idea of Eddie Guardado, but here's a guy I'd like to see in the WhiteSox pen as a setup man.

Here's his stats:

We already have an above average set-up man. I wouldn't mind seeing Lightenberg replace a waste of space like Botch in the BP though. Under that plan, however, you'd have to acquire a proven closer.

But didn't Lightenberg close somewhere like Atlanta?

Baltimore declined a $1.2 million dollar option on him, what does that tell you?

You can have him for $1.5 million easy, the only problem is convincing him to come to the Sox's.

I definitely feel like he's by far our best remaining option as far as relievers go. I'd love to sign him.

It's going to take a LOT more then Kerry Lightenberg to fill the holes in the Sox pen, especially from the right side and maybe the left if Wunsch and Schowenweis are gone.

I believe Lightenberg was the closer in Atlanta before getting injured and losing his job to John Rocker.

Exactly and since Lightenburg will come a lot cheaper than many of the remaining options on the market, it'll allow us the money to add other relievers to the pen.

For what it's worth, Ligtenberg and Ozzie were teammates in Atlanta.

OH NO..both Schoenweiss AND Wunsch gone? Man if we keep losing replaceable parts like those instead of overpaying to keep them, how can we ever compete?

Shoenweiss is replaceable, but it would be tough to replace a guy like Wunsch. I think he's been one of our most consistent relievers. Too bad JM didn't use him more.

Toss out an offer of 1/$1.25 or 2/$2.5 at him.

Wunsch is just like Sean Lowe....I liked him while he was here, and as long as he was doing his job cheaply then more power to him, but he is an infinately replaceable commodity

Are you kidding me? Our pen is in a lot of trouble. There were several guys out there that would come cheap and get the job done and we missed out on all of them. Marte can't pitch all the bullpen innings by himself.

So much for this idea. The Blue Jays are close to signing him.

"It could get done pretty soon," Ligtenberg's agent, Lonnie Cooper said Monday. "We're working through it right now."

Damn. I really wanted Ligtenberg too.

Also note that the other guy they mention in his little blurb is Lopez.....a rule 5 pickup who pitched very well

YOU DO NOT NEED TO SPEND ALOT TO GET GOOD MRs

I am not sure why everyone was hot on Littenberg but his going for 4.5 million shows that the Sox should have gone for Sullivan at 3 million. Looks like the position player market is down but people still are paying a lot for worthless pitchers.

What a strange world - Baltimore declines a 1.2 million option on Littenberg saying it is too hight and then Toronto turns around and gives him 4.5 million :?:
