Has anyone noticed the similarites betwee nthe cold war and the central divison. Picture the Royals and Twins being the USSR.
They spend more money than they have to keep up with the white sox and make a few achievement, (sputnik, nukes) They keep spending until they can not anymore and go bankrupt, ( Milton, possibly Stewart, Ibanez, Hawkings) Leaving the the White Sox (USA) the winner.

But in the real Cold War, the U.S. economy and its military and technological infrastructure buried the Soviets through the accumulation of years of spending and research & development--how the heck would the Sox fill that role? Sounds more like George Steinbrenner to me.

The White Sox would be more akin to one of our faithful NATO partners like, oh, Belgium.

And if you're talking World Series and divisional playoff success into the analogy--then methinks the Minnesota as USSR and White Sox as Belgium comparisons are probably about on target.
