Just read the 5-year Anniversary recap on the main page... I just wanted to express my gratitude to everyone who volunteers their time to make this one of, if not the premier fan site in the world.

:gulp: Here's to another five great years!

In the reporting business, it's important to get the facts straight when reporting a story. A news reporter I work with every morning told me that "if you mother says she loves you, check your sources." As crass as it may sound, it brings up a sound principle in journalism...make sure your story is not only right, but you can also back up the claims stated in the story by having the sources readily available in case someone wants to challenge the story. Well, I'm glad to say that if I'm ever in a situation when I'm reporting on White Sox affairs, I can say,,,"I can cite WSI as my source because the people who frequent that site are REAL SOX FANS who don't believe the prominent hype that is so popular in our press."

For example, I'd been saying for so long when the Cubs were in the playoff run that "not everyone is rooting for the Cubs to win.". Well, even though that was and is common sense, I made sure that anyone who wanted to challenge that claim could go to this site and read all the posts from people who were happier than clams the night when the CUbs choked in the playoffs. When the Cubs lost, I knew WSIers were going crazy...I myself was going nuts. I would've gone even crazier if it weren't for the fact my kids were sleeping, and my wife didn't want me to wake them up. She, unfortunately, rooted for the Cubs, and I felt so good to rub it in her face after the final out in game 7. My whole point...I knew that whenever there was a baseball-related story...especially when it's a Chicago story, we WSIers are not only on top of what's going on, but are smart enough not to follow the common perception of how we should react. We're smart enough to follow our own conclusions, and popular culture be damned.

It's great that people in the press are citing and quoting our site. I'm glad to be able to do the same thing, and you can rest assured that if other reporters totally ignore this site, I'll not only continue to frequent this website, but to continually give it and the people who love this site the proper credit they deserve. I'm a WSIer, and I get offended when articles in the trib and Sun-Times makes us look like fools for not following the popular crowd. I get tired of the constant barraging of people who like the Sox more than the Cubs. We deserve respect...our team deserves respect (when they're playing well, of course), and the whole ideal of being a Sox fan shouldn't be tarnished because the ballpark our favorite team plays in isn't in a trendy neighborhood, or has a celebrity singing "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" every day.

Mr. Bova...thanks for putting out this site. I appreciate the fact you've opened an avenue for us Sox fans both in and outside the media to vent, praise, converse, and simply be Sox fans without some Cubbie troll butting into our conversation. I wish you and the rest of the moderating bunch here at WSI a happy 5th anniversary, and wish you a successful future.

this is just the best website anywhere on the internet. I would have so much more time if I didn't know about it.

Ditto what has been stated in the previous posts. It is the finest and most enjoyable baseball web site anyplace.

I even enjoy the posts of those misguided souls who either defend the business policies of Uncle Jerry or feel that winning is guaranteed as long as you "follow the numbers."

It takes all kinds to make a solid web site...from good baseball people, to the numbers crunchers, to those who seem to care about how many strikeouts Sammy Sosa has, to those whose posts remind me of a strange distant relative...somebody missing a few cards in their deck.

Thanks to all. Maybe someday if the baseball gods finally get tired of abusing Sox fans, we'll all still be alive to celebrate a glorious day when the Sox get to a World Series. (Should I have put that in teal?????)

Even though I don't post much, WSI makes the winter just a little bit shorter.
