How common is it for a team to sign a 40th round pick like Matt Duechler?

I'm hoping there is some good reason for this, and that we have a diamond in the rough......I assume this is wrong, but why not be optimistic?

Also, How is Clint King progressing? He hasn't been talked up like other members of his draft class and I was wondering why?

I would imagine that Matt Duechler was a senior at James Madison and really didn't have any other options, such as returning to school to better his draft position. Rather than heading out to the 'real world', he probably signed for very little just to take a chance and see how he does in pro ball.

From Baseball America's current issue and their draft report card...

Best Raw Power: Anderson can launch 400-foot line drives. OF Clint King (3) gets nice loft with his swing.
