The Silver Slugger Award winners were announced. (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1649667) No Sox winners. IMHO, Frank should have won over Edgar Martinez. Here are there stats:

Edgar:

24 HR, 98 RBI, .294 avg., .406 OBP, .895 OPS

Frank:

42 HR, 105 RBI, .267 avg., .390 OBP, .952 OPS

I would imagine that virtually every GM in baseball would take Frank's '03 stats over Edgar's. It's relatively close, but Frank, by virtue of his much better power, should have gotten the nod.

I agree with you that Frank Thomas was the better DH. I also think someone like Carlos Lee should have been considered in the OF.

Who votes on this award?

Players? Managers? The Media?

I don't see any rational reason why anyone would think Edgar had a better year than Thomas. I guess the people voting value BA and OBP over homeruns, RBIs, OPS, Runs Created, Walks, Runs, Doubles, RC/27, Isolated Power, and secondary average.
