...He's simply a victim of wacko fans and a goofy element of pop-culture curiosity, the kind of no-lifers who have posted the following photos and illustrations on Web sites:

* Bartman superimposed with Jennifer Lopez on an ad for the movie flop "Gigli''

* Bartman playing Lucy and pulling out a football from under a tumbling Charlie Brown

* Bartman posing with Siegfried and Roy and a certain tiger

* Bartman jumping around after kicking Rodney King

* Bartman suspended in a David Blaine-type container

* Bartman posing as John Wilkes Booth

* Bartman beside the burning Colosseum in Rome

* Bartman missing the field goal for the Buffalo Bills in the 1991 Super Bowl.

It's all pretty silly, really, in a world with bigger issues. Rather than run from the madness, Bartman should have a news conference and try to have fun with the moment.

There was a Steve Bartman photoshop contest over at fark.com.

Here were the entries:

The Lucy and Charlie Brown cartoon won, but it wasn't my personal favorite. I liked the New Coke one and the Lincoln Assassination.

OMG leave it to Cubs fans to put a fan trying to catch a foul ball on the same level as the WTC attacks...

With killer fires raging in Southern California and people continuing to die violently in the Middle East, can't the same be said for what this columnist does for a living?
