For 3 straight years, a team that Street & Smith magazine predicted to finish in 4th place won the World Series.

When the sports journalism crowd focuses on payroll, hungry teams with spirit will be ignored. Still, it's quite an odd coincidence. Maybe next spring Street & Smith can come out with a "fourth-place team to look out for."

Those preseason prediction magazines are never right about anything. I'm still waiting for the rematch of the 99 Braves/Yankees series...

One of the coolest magazine predictions of all time happened in 1982:

A magazine called "GamePlan Baseball" made a prediction that year that in 5 years (1987), the Minnesota Twins would win the World Series. The magazine did an in-depth futuristic story talking about all of the position players that would still be together in '87....it was amazing. I think the only mistake was they predicted the Dodgers would face the Twins in the World Series. Keep in mind, in 1982 the Twins were as horrible as the Tigers are this year, so it was a very bold prediction.

I don't think GamePlan does the baseball prediction magazine anymore. I think they are still in business and do college football books though.

If anyone can ever find the 1982 version of this magazine, it's worth looking at. I misplaced my copy along the way, but I wish I still had it. It was really quite incredible.
