We are little over an hour away from game-time. Tonight, the Florida Marlins hope to shock the baseball world by defeating the over-paid New York Yankees in this best of seven series.

23 year old Texas native Josh Beckett takes the mound for the Fish as he is opposed by World Series regular Andy Pettitte. Will we crown a World Champion tonight? Game 6 is coming your way, NEEEEEEEEXT!!!!!

This whole series has been exciting from game one on. I guess I probably wouldn't be watching if the Marlins hadn't eliminated the Chicago choke club. I love the Marlins style of ball. They're infield defense is impressive. They hit to right etc..... Good starting pitching. (well... ok) They are taking it right to the yankers.

Posada hits a leadoff double into a trash-filled left field.

Giambi up.

WhiteSox = Life
10-25-2003, 10:14 PM
Giambi grounds out, pulling a Sham-Me*, and not advancing the runner from second to third with no out.

After getting ahead 0-2, Beckett has some problem finding the plate.

And, on the full count...

Beckett gets the high strike on a curve ball, K'ing Karim.

With a runner on second and two outs, Sierra pinch-hits for Boone.

WhiteSox = Life
10-25-2003, 10:21 PM
Not only do I get to see Sierra strike out, I get to hear the awesome Bill Withers hit "Lean On Me."

Yankees are 0-10 with 4 strikeouts with runners on base.

Right there with ya... I thought my mind was made up to not pay attention to the playoffs in general, and the WS in particular... until the entire media (both sports --- and especially the national media) starting slobbering allover themselves about the damn cubs.

Since the Sox fell short this season :(: It's great seeing a team like the Marlins come out of nowhere (seemingly from the media's perspective) and plow through the "old guard" ... Giants, Flubs, and (hopefully soon) Yankees.

To me, the lack of history attached to the Marlins franchise doesn't matter... as you stated, they play the game with solid fundamentals in all areas, they way it should be played.

GO FISH!

Bottom of the 8th...who's nervous?

Soriano with a leadoff single and Jeter at bat.

Marlins have Willis start to warm.

WhiteSox = Life
10-25-2003, 10:39 PM
Urbina also warming.

Jeter has a 3-1 count with Soriano giving Beckett problems.

Jeter has had one good swing, and he was behind on it.

3-2 count...

Jeter flies out deep to Pierre in center.

One out. Johnson to bat.

With the possibility of Urbina coming in now that he's warming up, I am even more so.

Nice out, Derek. Touch first base, spin around, and find yourself a piece of bench to sit on back in the dugout.

:smile:

And now a double-play to end the eighth!

YES!

The nice bounce to Castillo, and with probably the best double play tandem in baseball, he completes the double play, in 4-6-3 fashion.

To the 9th inning, we go, Marlins up 2-0.

Trader Jack has a tough decision here.

No way I'd put Uggy in - Leave in Beckett or maybe put in Willis.

Let Beckett start the 9th and have Willis ready to come in the minute trouble brews.

Beckett starting the inning.

BELIEVE.

WhiteSox = Life

The first batter is Bernie Williams.

First pitch is a curve for a ball. 1-0. That was Beckett's 100th pitch of the night. The second pitch is a foul ball down the first base line. 1-1. Third pitch hit into left field and the wind tries to take it, but Cabrera hangs in and catches it.

1 down, 2 to go.

yankees down to their final bullet!

WhiteSox = Life
10-25-2003, 10:53 PM
Matsui also flies out to Cabrera who has to battle the wind.

2 down, 1 to go.

Posada is all that stands between the Marlins and a World Series Championship.

Did it look like anyone else that the Yanks had already accepted failure before the start of the 9th inning? Didn't see much heart there.

If anyone ever says to my face that the Marlins didn't deserve this, I'm gonna punch 'em square in the nose.

WhiteSox = Life
10-25-2003, 10:55 PM
Posada swings at the first pitch and fouls it behind him.

Beckett throws a ball in the dirt to even the count at 1-1.

On the third pitch, a slow roller to Beckett down the first base line and he tags Posada for the final out!

FLORIDA MARLINS ARE WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS!!!

It is only fitting that Josh Beckett makes the final out all by himself in the World Series clincher! What a gutsy, fantastic and incredible game pitched by Beckett.

Beckett will be the World Series MVP. Mark it down.

Congrats to the 2003 World Champion Florida Marlins!!!!! (I had to use teal, can we change our sarcasm color to something else like purple?)

Josh Beckett is your Series MVP.

Was it just me or did the announcers sound like disappointed Yankee fans?

You want to talk about disappointed Yankees fans? How about whoever picked the music for these credits? This was the best song they could think of for a highlight reel?

I didn't get to hear the music, what exactly did they play?

It wasn't "Taps" played on a trumpet was it? :D:

Personally, I think "Lean On Me" would've been a good song for the Marlins...

On second thought, why not make that the White Sox seasonal song for their championship next season?

Big congrats to the 2003 Florida Marlins, baseball's champions for this year!

I am in awe of Josh Beckett this postseason, and truly hope the White Sox can get a guy of his caliber on our team one of these years.

Anyway, hope the Fish fans realize how fortunate they are to have won 2 WS titles in 7 years!

"It's like finding out someone's sleeping with your wife,"

"These Marlins don't deserve a championship," said Gleason, 34, who came from California for the game. "They've been in existence like five minutes and have 20 fans. It's a sad day for sports."

Typical arrogant Yankee fan BS. Yankee fans think the baseball sun rises and sets solely on them.

MEMO TO YANKEE FANS: Your team came up short. Try giving credit to the Florida Marlins (probably asking too much).

It's amazing that the Marlins have only had 2 winning seasons yet they have 2 World Series wins.
