Pardon my ignorance on this one-

What the hell is "Player of the Year" and when did that come into existence? How is that different than the Most Valuable Player? Can the same guy win both awards?

I totally missed this one.

By the way, I have a feeling Holladay is going to get the nod for Cy Young over ELo because of the win total.

NL Comeback Player: Pudge

I will be pissed if this happens. Gagne should win and if he doesnt Schmidt is more deserving than Prior. If Prior is Cy Young then you'd never hear the end of it from flub fans

Schmidt was tied for wins, but had a higher ERA. Statwise, that puts Prior ahead.

As far as Gagne is concerned, I don't think he'll win because he's a closer. Traditionally, the Rolaids Relief Award is meant for them and other relief pitchers... not the Cy Young. I myself think that the Cy Young should focus more on starters.

And anyways, we're gonna be hearing it from flub fans for a long time. I put down who I think deserves the Cy Young above anyone else. Unfortunately, that person happens to pitch for the Cubs. That still doesn't change the fact that he's really good, and I wish that he were on the Sox' staff.

Sorry but these stats are simply not true. Schmidt had 17 wins, Prior had 18 wins. But the Giants lost a grand total of 5 games the entire year in which Schmidt started.

Schmidt's ERA was 2.34 while Prior's was 2.43

Prior had 6 losses while Schmidt had 5

Schmidt 5 CGs 3 shutouts . Prior 3 CGs 1 shutout

Schmidt's W+H/IP was .95 while prior's was 1.10

The only other thing Prior has going for him is the 245 Ks compared to the 208 that Schmidt has.

There's no question that statistically, Jason Schmidt's season was better than that of Mark Prior

American League:

Most Valuable Player: Alex Rodriguez
Cy Young Award: Roy Halladay
Manager of the Year: Tony Pena
Comeback Player of the Year: Frank Thomas
Player of the Year: Carlos Delgado
Rookie of the Year: Angel Berroa

National League:

Most Valuable Player: Albert Pujols
Cy Young Award: Eric Gagne
Manager of the Year: Jack McKeon
Comeback Player of the Year: Ivan Rodriguez
Player of the Year: Barry Bonds
Rookie of the Year: Dontrelle Willis

I strongly considered Jerry Manuel and Royce Clayton for awards, as well, but the competition this season was so great that I just couldn't do it. Perhaps next season...

Whoops. Looks like I got the two confused on that front.

I stand corrected, and my opinion changes.

I would assume that it has to do with them being Sox fans, who also happen to believe that they're own players are deserving of post-season awards.
