I'd stick in house with Rivera or possibly Gregg Zaun if he's cheap enough.

Yeah, all two of them,Mike Rivera and Jamie Burke.

At the lower levels there is nothing, unless Ryan Hankins manages to actually make the transition, but I have my doubts.

Call me Susan, but since we're bringing up former Sox catchers, what's Josh Paul's contract situation? I wouldn't mind him backing up Olivo.

Susan,

Josh is a FA after this year making 325,000 - the league minimum.

Please no, let's let former White Sox catchers be for White Sox catchers.

I concur.

Gregg Zaun or Brent Mayne, if they are available, would make good BACKUP ONLY options. Solid defense, call a good game, left handed bats, used to their roles. Brad Ausmus can't hit a whole lot, but he's a gold glover and I think he'll be available this winter. Only problem is, I think all of the above mentioned catchers are 30+ years old. Injuries would be a legitimate concern.

Those guys are all more reliable than Sandy at this point. I like Mayne and Ausmus.

Mark Johnson!

Seeing as though Kenny probably won't take him back, I think I would stick with Mike Rivera. Either him, or go after Ramon Castro (those rape charges were dropped, right?). I used to be a big fan of Gregg Zaun, but since 2001, his OPS has been in the .560-.600 range. Brent Mayne will probably stick with the Royals (Baird seems to love him). As for Brad Ausmus, if Bagwell and Biggio have their way, he'll be back with the Astros. It's not like I'd want him here anyway (.291 SLG playing in Enron?!).

Biggio and Bagwell will never allow the Astros to let Ausmus go. And even if they did, I sure as hell wouldn't want him.
