Why in the WORLD does Lofton go his whole career tormenting us in that Cleveland uniform, suck for us, and then go on to be the MVP of the playoffs for the Cubs? Why must he torture us like this?

soxwon
10-14-2003, 08:20 PM
why couldnt the fish score and the CUBS DO.

If Pavano has a good 2nd, the top of the order is up for the fish in the 3rd...and prior looks very hittable tonight.

10-14-2003, 08:52 PM
Why in the WORLD does Lofton ...

Actually, Lofton tore up for the Sox early in the '02 season, but then continued playing while being hurt --and sucked that way--he was not nearly as effective as April May (when Sox were leading AL in most categories, including SB)

)again and again) he has continued to be a solid OF, leadoff kind of guy when he's healthy, he played well in playoffs last year as well

The Marlins have a shot, Pavano is pitching really well tonight. Has settled down nicely after those 1st inning troubles.

ode to veeck
10-14-2003, 09:17 PM
Pavano's pithing pretty well tonight,

if they somehow eck a couple of runs out to beat Prior tonight and then do in Kerry Woods tomorrow ... this could go down as one of the gretest chokes in history (& rank right up there with a couple of ground balls through Durham's and Buckner's leggs--famous FLubs and ExFlubs wrong sox assisted chokes from the past

I'm feeling the optimist tonight, but it is still early ...

SoxxoS
10-14-2003, 09:26 PM
This is all you can ask for...1 run from Pavano through 5 innings. All they need is 1 run off of the messiah.

Also, this just in...Florida really isn't that good. They are good, just not World Series good. Neither are the Cubs, or the whole National League for that matter. The Cubs have 1 pitcher. The Marlins have too many question marks for a series of this nature. S.F. obviously overlooked them tremendously.

Don't get me wrong...Florida is good. Just not W.S. good.

The Marlins look like the Sox today. Juan Pierre is 1/4 in stolen bases against Paul Bako. Luis Gonzalez, one of the best bunters in the majors, can't get one down in a key situation. They aren't going to hit a homer with the wind blowing in, so it's up to a few hits, and I don't know if they are going to get this on Prior. Hopefully Dusty will leave Prior in a bit too long and his is worn out for the W.S.

Bernie was a Sox fan as far as i remember. During a Sox/Cubs game I think he said "root root for the White Sox". I couldn't really understand what he said today. Did anyone catch that?

Marlins are WINNING!!!! HOLY CRAP!

1. If fan interference is called, it's an automatic out and the play is dead. The umpire ruled the ball was in the stands and therefore, it was fair play for the fans to reach up. I would've thought that all these true Cubs fans would have known the situation.

They cannot call fan interference if a ball is in the stands. Since Alou was reaching into the stands, fan interference cannot be called.

I thought interference could be called if the fan makes contact with the ball outside the edge of the stands, seemed pretty close onthat play, even though Alou's glove looked like it was in the stands

Not quite sure, since I was not alive at the time. But it had something to do with some idiot trying to bring a billy goat into the stadium. The Cubs wouldn't allow it and the owner supposedly cursed them. Its a bunch of stupid Cubs nonsense.

I completely agree. This is an absolute disgrace that the media is building on this "blame the fan who put his hands out." It wasn't like the ball was grounded down the line and he reached out. The ball was in the air and it was coming right at him. What if Alou misses the ball? It hits the kid smack in the face. It's ridiculous that Dusty's blaming the fan too ... guess what Dusty? Maybe I'm an elitist but I would hope most of us wouldn't reach for the ball. We always talk crap on here on how Sox fans are better baseball people than those **** on the north side. What is interesting though something similiar happened in the second inning of game 2 I believe on a pop up behind the plate.

I wouldn't have gone for it because I've been watching baseball all my life and being 5 outs a way from a pennant I'd back the hell up.

What kills me is these stupid announcers categorize this idiot as a lifelong cubs' fan. Why because he has a stupid hat on? He has good seats. It speaks to the fact that real BASEBALL fans aren't in those seats. It's corporate fatcats and others who don't belong there.

Reference the Boston game on Sunday. Trot Nixon tracks down a flyball that would have been a homer. Those Boston fans back up and don't interfere. Boston doesn't have the sort of bandwagon chumps the flubbbies do.

I saw that fan, too. Complete and utter douchebag. "I wanted to expose him". "He cost us a once in a lifetime".

With all these Cubs fans wanting to tar and feather this fan, don't they sound like hypocrites since they are the same people who stereotyped us after the Ligue and Dybas incidents?

But remember that Dybas was a Cub fan that earlier that day was at the Cub game

Can someone please keep Giangreco out of the tanning booth for at least 5 minutes? Geez, he's blacker than Warner Saunders.

Interesting.

Tom Schaer is conducting a Dave Wills-like Cubs Post Game show on AM 1000.

"Here's hoping you enjoyed the broadcast, despite the outcome..."

Hey, can we get some WSI volunteers to give this hapless Flubbie fan safe haven for the next few days. We're going to set up an underground railroad to transport him safely to Canada, too.

If this guy has any sense, he'll be hiding out in Beverly tonight. Hell, he would be drinking for free in any bar on Western Ave.

:bandance: :bandance: :bandance:

I got room up here in milwaukee if hes will to become a sox fan

George, I am reading through the entire Game 6 thread, and you just about made beer come pouring out my nostrils with this post.

BRILLIANT.

I saw Tom Schaer on Chicago Tonight and he said that if the Cubbies lose this series then it will be the biggest flop of all-time.

George, you're on a roll tonight.

Hey, how 'bout the Sox get this guy to throw out the first pitch on Opening Day 2004?

:gallas

Ummmm, how 'bout a Ricky Nelson Day instead?

Great line from Julie Swieca on the aftermath of the fan interference:

"As Hawk would say, the Cubs didn't cinch it up and hunker down."

Mark GianGrecoRoman was on the radio in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Mark made the following Cubbie-loving, bone-smoking remark, "At least the play-offs are in Wrigley because the Sox wouldn't even sell the games out."

You have to be kidding! Did he really say that? If he did, it's funny how he suddenly remembers the Sox when the beloved Cubbies fall flat in Game 6.

I guess Mark has some selective memory because the Sox playoff games were sold out in 00, 93, and 83. 9and he was in Chicago for the 93 and 00 ones)

For that matter, the 2003 games were sold out so far too...until the Sox didn't make it.

Nice hair, Giangreco.....if it's 198-****ing-5.

Man, I'm too pumped up to go to sleep.

This is a great night to be a Sox fan.

The classic part of it all was that the Cubs were already celebrating. Prior and Wood laughing it up in the dugout in the 6th. Thommy B. counting down the outs. 37-year old drunk-ass Park Ridge divorcees (who got their tickets because their ex-husbands company had extras) in the bleachers dancing like they're 19 yr olds. Mark Suppelsa breaking it down for me, trying to tell me not to worry about Pavano because he's never heard of him himself.

Believe it or not, I'm trying to hold-off my celebrations until after tomorrows game. With every Cubbie victory my phone has rung off the wall with boastful Cubbie fans. I did not even consider phoning those Cubbie fan friends tonight. This loss will be glossed over completely if the Cubbies win tomorrow.

This, in the recap from www.cubs.com

It was exactly 95 years ago on this date, Oct. 14, that the Cubs won the 1945 World Series.

No one said they were math majors.
