so I'm feeling pretty down last night after the flubbie game and I'm dreading coming in to work and the crap I'm gonna take.

I grab my 2 year old daughter and we go in the kitchen and to share a cookie. I hand her one and tell her it's an Oreo and then I show her the name on the cookie and say it elongated so she can understand it "Or-E-O". My beautiful, wonderful little girl looks at the cookie, looks at me, looks at the cookie again and says "Or-E-O, Maaaglio".

And all was right in my universe. Next spring can't come quickly enough, go Marlins.

That's so sweet! My god-daughter and her sister have been saying "OEO Magglio" and "Paulie" whenever they see baseball. My god-daughter is little young to understand if the team playing is the Sox or not, but her sister knows if it is the Sox or the Cubs. She doesn't like the Cubs at all and I am trusting her to teach her sister correctly.

There's something that hasn't happened since the Carter administration.

This thread has both made me mist up at the original post, and laugh out loud at the Lip/Carter/Wilson comments and the reappearance of the lovable Victor E. Banana.

Even though this has been a depressing week/month, I cherish some great memories from the 2003 White Sox season and following it all here at WSI.

HA! i doubt that. :D:

actually what i liked about the post wasn't the the little girl's remark, which was very cute, but the way in which phaedrus described her ...

"my beautiful, wonderful little girl"

... most would have said my kid or some such. i was touched that he exposed a very deep emotion to all of us goons.

What a great post! Thank you for sharing. I love stories like that. Last winter when my baby sister was only 1 year old I taught her to say "Go Sox." It was one of the first "phrases" she ever used on a consistent basis. Now she has added "O-E-O Magglio" to that. :D:

Excellent imagery, phaedrus. You've raised your daughter well.
