Not Arbitration. (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1628065)

Trade them Maggs for Ichiro. Ichiro will make 6 million compared to 14 million. Take that 8 million and sign Kaz Matsui. Sound good?

Ichiro would seem to fit into the new philosophy that the Sox are going to take under Ken Williams...slashers, runners and grinders.

It is something to consider.

I'd love to have Ichiro on the team but I don't know if I'd give up Maggs for him. Perhaps they would do it for Lee or Konerko + another player? Edgar isn't getting any younger and they have to find a DH power guy to replace him. You want to add Ichiro to an outfield that already has Magglio in it, not subtract one for the other.

Lip...you aren't preaching reality here?

Ichiro makes Seattle a ton of money and if I recall the Mariners are owned by Japanese Interests? I don't mind discussing potential deals, but I like to have them rooted in some sense of reality

Lip didn't propose it. He just said it would fit well into the Sox plans....and it would as long as we got Garcia along with Ichiro.

Super.....so the offseason thoughts around these parts are that we can add both Arod and Ichiro with an outside shot at Schilling......good to see common sense prevails

The point is now moot anyway. Ichiro's agent said they will work out a deal with Seattle. It's in today's papers.

Ichiro is the farthest thing from a "grinder"... he has proceeded to fade in each of the last two seasons, clearly getting fatigued by the MLB schedule and costing the Mariners a trip to the play-offs. In the past two years, Ichiro stole 9 bases after the All-Star break and hit about .260 in the final two months of the season.

Another thing - this team isn't going to change in one season. If Rowand or Everett are in CF next year, you can forget about this team being a "slasher" team. Where are we going to put these supposed new players? SS and CF are the only two places.

Seattle would never get rid of Ichiro, but he is the most dynamic player in the league. I would love to see that happen, but dont hold your breath. The Sox need to pick up a free agent or two to fill their holes to add without subtracting from the core, then trade in my view.

I think Ichiro's agent announced recently that they are working on the contract out of arbitration
