Can't say it's been fun, Jer...

It's not you, it's us.

We're insensitive to your needs.

You deserve better.

where do you think this team might have ended up had D. Baker been the manager?

"If we win the fans will show up." Reply to Bruce Levine's question about hiring a manager that will help market the team.

From AP:

"Manuel was 500-471 in six seasons, the fourth-most wins for a White Sox manager. Chicago was .500 or better in each of the last four seasons, and finished below second place only once under Manuel, in 2001."

So who were the top 3? 500-471 seems kinda mediocre.

Finally.....the day has come !!!!!!

JM is a fine guy and I wish him all the best, but it was time for this decision.

Too bad it happened a little too late (maybe 4 month or 3 years) but at least the Sox were fair to JM in letting him finishing this season......a season that still hurts so bad !!!!

Lets hope that KW & JR find the right manager that could lead our Sox to a place were they belong....WORLD SERIES CHAMPS

I just hope Uncle Jerry doesn't cheap out on the mgmt talent. Hope he doesn't want to bring in another "rookie". Seems to me we've got the best lineup since '94 .
Some key PR replacements may help the cash flow too. At least we had better attendance this year: 1,939,594 in 2003 vs. 1,675,591 in 2002.

If you win, they will come:

Just fantasizing (again): maybe Pudge would be a decent rookie HC. Definitely a big (positive) PR move.

From the Yahoo! Sports story:
"Jerry Manuel typifies class, character and integrity," Manuel said. "He brought those attributes to the ballpark every day for six years for the White Sox regardless of the team's won-loss record at the time." I'm guessing they need to get a proofreader on this story, unless JM went nuts and started taking classes at "Tom Gordon's School of Third-Person Speaking." :D:

I like the idea of focusing on pitching, we need someone else, and I wouldn't mind seeing Garland at #5?

There's a lot of offensive players I like, but what I think won't have an impact on KW's decisions anyways.

Well, next things to look forward to are a certain Atlanta baseball team using a broom, the NBA, getting a new manager, and SoxFest

What is the story with the "ice cream" references that people keeping making regarding Manual. Did I miss something earlier this year?

I asked the same question a while back. It's because Manuel ran the Sox like a little league team--everybody played, and then they all went out for ice cream.

4 games out and in second place. I don't think Baker is any better than JM. The manager didn't lose this for us. The players did. I agree we needed to fire the manager, but he isnt the problem. He didn't hit below .200 vs Minnesota in 5 games in september like 3-4-5 did.

yeah, i think the responsibility must fall on the players too, but at the same time, i don't think jerry motivated them to play everyday either.

IMO, Baker would have coaxed 10 more wins out of this team. He's head and shoulders a better manager than JM.

Now, the search begins for his replacement.

Believe it or not, I wish Jerry Manuel the best. Though I did not always agree with his decision-making (big shock), I do hope that he's able to catch on somewhere soon. Good luck, Jerry!

As nice as the Torre and LaRussa rumars are, I think that it is to early to be talking names like that. I would much rather see Fisk given a shot. Or hey, how about Tony G.? Return of the Player-Manager!!! Tony G. For Player Manager, let the campaign start today.
