Maybe next year we can be: "Yes! World Series champs!

The preceding message was brought to you by Jerry Reinsdorf's decision to raise payroll to 90 Million and to hire Tony La Russa

If they hire Tony Larussa I may be forced to become a Twins fan.

Daver, what exactly is your reason for opposing TLR as Sox manager? I confess, I'm not up on what the skinny on him is these days, but didn't he win a division title with the Sox in '83?

Please explain. You seem to be in the minority on this

LaRussa is TERRIBLE at handling postseason pitchers.

He should have 4 or 5 rings at this point, not 1.

Did Tony win a division,or did Larry Himes? That team was stacked with talent.

Tony is just as bad as Jerry Manuel,he overthinks everything, plays guys he likes even though they have proven to be unable to get the job done, and is a nightmare to a pitching rotation. The Cardinals have had a ton of talent in the Larussa regime, and haven't won a damn thing, because of Tony, and they play in a division similar to the Sox,but made easier for the fact that it is in the National League.

I have yet to figure out why everyone seems to love this guy,he has a history of backstabbing his general managers to his own benefit, turning what should be contending teams into also rans, and being good in the press to cover it all up.

Tony Larussa is a joke.

Roland Hemond was the GM when LaRussa won the division here.

And Hawk came after Hemond and before Himes. Strange mistake by Daver.

I see that they are now 5 games behind the Twins. Those five
games made all the difference. Well, not ALL of it, but reverse
those results and....yap yap yap.

Hawk Harrelson replaced Hemond and ran them for the 1986 season. Himes came on before the '87 season.

I thought Hemond and La Russa made a pretty good combination. They worked together from 1979 through 1985. The Sox went from perennial second-division trash to championship threat in those years. It was after Hemond got dumped for Harrelson that the trouble started. I don't see how La Russa can take any of the blame for that situation.

Fly in the ointment --------------> :hawk

Daver is spot on about LaRussa folks... since I have a few relatives who are Cardinals fans, I've watched a lot of LaRussa the past few years, and he makes baffling decisions. Plus, as was mentioned in a previous post, he really messes up in the post-season with his rotation, hence why he has only won one ring.

Granted, I was too young to remember LaRussa in his Sox days, not sure what people thought of him then.

Baffling decisions are still decisions. something thats been missing here for 6 years plus. I booed LaRussa before, I just see him as an improvement over the clown we have now.

One thing LaRussa learned after he left the Sox: when to pull a pitcher.
