View Full Version : Theme Song For the 2003 Season

I know this is kind of a cheesey song but after watching the Debacle in the Dome the last three days this song has been playing in my head. The person in this song could be JM, JR or several of the players who have broken our hearts this season. Any other ideas for a theme song?

Killing Me Softly With His Song
( Roberta Flack )

Strumming my pain with his fingers,
Singing my life with his words,
Killing me softly with his song,
Killing me softly with his song,
Telling my whole life with his words,
Killing me softly with his song ...

I heard he sang a good song, I heard he had a style.
And so I came to see him to listen for a while.
And there he was this young boy, a stranger to my eyes.

Strumming my pain with his fingers,
Singing my life with his words,
Killing me softly with his song,
Killing me softly with his song,
Telling my whole life with his words,
Killing me softly with his song ...

I felt all flushed with fever, embarrassed by the crowd,
I felt he found my letters and read each one out loud.
I prayed that he would finish but he just kept right on ...

Strumming my pain with his fingers,
Singing my life with his words,
Killing me softly with his song,
Killing me softly with his song,
Telling my whole life with his words,
Killing me softly with his song ...

He sang as if he knew me in all my dark despair.
And then he looked right through me as if I wasn't there.
But he just came to singing, singing clear and strong.

Strumming my pain with his fingers,
Singing my life with his words,
Killing me softly with his song,
Killing me softly with his song,
Telling my whole life with his words,
Killing me softly with his song ...

He was strumming, oh, he was singing my song.
Killing me softly with his song,
Killing me softly with his song,
Telling my whole life with his words,
Killing me softly with his song ...
With his song ...

BYE BYE GHANDI
Good Bye Manuel
You just can go to hell
And then the Sox will win
And then the Sox will win

take willie with you
bruce kimm and Daubach too
Good riddance all of you
and maybe now we'll win.
and not have to hear your spin.

so BYE BYE JERRY
SUCK MY ASS MANUEL
AS FAR AS I CAN TELL
You're just like bevington
neither of you could win.

Didn't we do this already, like July?

Hey, I guess a little deja vu is in order after this series repeated the 2000 ALDS.

"You're Breaking My Heart, So (F-bomb) You," by Nilsson comes to mind...

You're breaking my heart, you're tearing it apart, so ____ you
All I wanna do is have a good time, now I'm blue
You wanna boogaloo, run down to tramps, have a dance or too, oooh!
You're breaking my heart, you're tearing it apart, but ____ you.

You stepped on my ass, you're breaking my glasses too.
I'm goin' insane, there's no one to blame, so ____ you.
You gotta have your way, there's nothing left to say, there's nothin' left to do, oooh!
You're breakin' my heart, you're tearin' it apart, but I love you.

There's other stuff in there, about wanting to drive my car and spend all my money, but I can't fit the Son of Schmilsson LP into my CD player.

How about the Grobber's favorite song:

I've never heard that, though I see it referred to often here. Any way to hear it online?

I do remember Grobstein's "Super Embarrassed," a riff on the "Super Bowl Shuffle," with classic lines like "Hiya, sports fans, my name is Ed West... I couldn't catch a pass if it hit me in the chest."

I'd almost want to ask Grobber to write one for us, but that's like letting a Cub keep the pick-a-nick basket.

They have another song that is somewhat appropriate. It's called 'Death on Two Legs.'

There's a band Carbon Leaf, local band from the Virginia area. Anyway, one of my favorite songs of there's is entitled "On Any Given Day You'll Find Me Gone"

Sounds like the Sox doesn't it?

What about "Good Times Bad Times" by Led Zeppelin? It really has nothing to do with baseball but at least the title in somewhat relevant.

replace "marianne" with "white sox"

MORE THAN A FEELING
Boston

I looked out this morning and the sun was gone
Turned on some music to start my day
I lost myself in a familiar song
I closed my eyes and she slipped away

It's more than a feeling, when I hear that old song they used to play (more than a feeling)
I begin dreaming (more than a feeling)
'Till I see Marianne walk away
I see my Marianne walkin' away

So many people have come and gone
Their faces fade as the years go by
Yet I still recall as I wander on
As clear as the sun in the summer sky

It's more than a feeling, when I hear that old song they used to play (more than a feeling)
I begin dreaming (more than a feeling)
'Till I see Marianne walk away
I see my Marianne walkin' away

When I'm tired and thinking cold
I hide in my music, forget the day
And dream of a girl I used to know
I closed my eyes and she slipped away
She slipped awa y. She slipped away.

It's more than a feeling, when I hear that old song they used to play (more than a feeling)
I begin dreaming (more than a feeling)
'Till I see Marianne walk away
I see my Marianne walkin' away

Well, if the song is about the fans' reaction to this season, I nominate the old Homer & Jethro song, "I've Got Tears in My Ears from Lying on My Back in My Bed While Crying Over You."

and if it's about the fans who've had enough, how about "gonna get along without you now" by patience & prudence?

or the positive thinking fans (you know who you are) how about "our day will come" by ruby and the romantics?

for those of us who just witnessed the last 5 games with the twins try "broken hearted melody" by sarah vaughn.

or those of us who've been thru sox bs for many years now, how about "the never ending story" by limahl?

manuel's themesong has to be "sleepwalk" by larry sasser.

and then jr needs a theme song. how about "brother can you spare a dime"?

"It's a Thin Line Between Love and Hate"

Don't remember the name of the artist. Jerry Manuel actually started singing this during an interview in order describe the ever-changing feelings of Sox fans.

That's by the Pretenders. Both the recorded version and the one captured in the interview you speak of, it would seem...

"Lost Cause" from his Sea Change album. It's about heartbreak and loss. (sound familiar) :(:

Chicago artist Kelly Hogan has a wonderful song entitled "It's A Mighty Thin Line Between Love and Hate".

Beck's "Lost Cause" is also a great selection.
