Carl Everett on the other hand...

Frank's shot was headed for CF if Lohse doesn't knock it down. Of course with the infield at DP depth, it might have ended up in the 2B mitt, but you cannot fault the execution, merely the result...

On another note, Mientiedks;ajkldsfawicz needs to get beaned somwhere along the line...Another gut that pisses me off.

One more thing, everytime Colon is pitching, the announcers from the opposing team ALWAYS say "he actually gets stronger as the game goes on." Everytime, it never fails.

Its like playing baseball in a Home Depot. I have had it with that bounce the ball in front of plate high enough to make a close call at first BS. Buehrle mentioned it once. I bet pitchers hate that place.

Valentine has been all over the astro bull tonite. Just when I start complaining about him he makes three great plays. Roberto Alomar should win coach of the year for Valentines fielding improvement. If he would just start hitting.

*** was Colon doing there? Trying to prove something? That's bad pitching, plain and simple. Fastball after fastball over the inner corner with Jones standing way off the plate and having already caught up to one of them already.

I think he deserves a curtain call after the way he has single handedly given the Twins a chance to put the Sox away.

I agree with buzzing somebody if for no other reason than to work off some steam and getting the Twins thinking about something aside from baseball. They are loose and happy, the Sox are tight and nervous...

Strike 3 on Daubach. Two outs and Maggs is still standing on 1B after a leadoff single.

SoxxoS
09-18-2003, 09:17 PM
Look at it this way-

We need to come back from this 2 run deficit. This is not 8 runs here, it is two. If we can't come back from that in the game of our year, how would we do it in the playoffs?

When is the last time Daubach, Olivo or Valentin got a hit.?Seriously.

Also, we are taking first pitch strikes against control pitchers, and we are hacking against Kyle Lohse. Great freaking strategy.

RKMeibalane
09-18-2003, 09:18 PM

Why doesn't Manuel play Rowand in center, Everett at DH, and Frank at first?

As I have said all series just shorten the swing, the more they look for the homerun the more they will fly out. You also know very few hits get down in the outfield of the Twins.

You don't even want to see the posts on this board if Thomas goes to first and doesn't give us some clutch hitting. This team is in dire need of a first baseman that can hit once in awhile.

PaleHoseGeorge

Farmer is getting anxious. He notes that Valentin hit the neck on a high tight pitch last night. However nobody from the Twins has been challenged... and they're swinging easy now.

I agree, and that's why I think Manuel needs to be fired. He doesn't understand how to use his players properly. He keeps putting them in situations where they are likely to fail. The Frank situation is just one example. He did the same thing to Jose Valentin because he wanted to give Royce Clayton playing time. He also moved Maggs out of position to give Armando Rios extra at-bats, and that didn't work either.

Manuel's antics are inexcusable.

I would have loved to see that last month. But Manuel considers Harris and Rowand to be equal when they are not. It appears Manuel doesn't play Rowand so he doesn't hurt Harris's feelings. Rowand is the best defensive option in center and has an improving bat (well, until JM sat him for half the year, retarding his growth) while Harris is not the best defensive option at his position.

Rowand brings better defense and steady offense. Harris brings only speed. FIRE MANUEL

It's so apparent the team is cursed.

I'm not sure what, if anything, will ever free them from this burden.

No. Jerry Manuel can't produce because he has his best hitter (and the undisputed greatest hitter in the franchise's 103-history) playing out of position.

Well, if that 6th inning doesn't prove the character of this team I don't know what does. Taking pitches in the first led to men on base. Why stick with it just because it works?

Clee's had a great year, but that at bat in the 5th put a dagger in the game, and thus, the season.

The new manager wont be this stupid for many reasons George.

Let me ask you something, do you think Kelly Wunsch should pitch in any meaningful game after crying on the bench after throwing the bunt fielded down the 1st base line?

Why did Billy Koch get 3 times the chances Foulke did?

Why was Colon pulled in the ninth at Wrigley just because Colon said get someone up if I struggle?

If we are in a slump hitting, why start Olivo?

Why did Harris replace Everitt but now Rowand does?

And worst of all, why did Jon Garland come out of the game against KC at home with a pitch count of 79 pitches, and Shoee comes in and blows it open.

Thomas is a steal at $6 million. There isn't a bigger bargain on a 14-year veteran in the league. In fact, I could get TWO Frank Thomases for the price of one Magglio Ordonez.

Next year Manuel will be retired in Sacramento for lots of reasons, and mishandling his best hitter will be among the largest of these.

I just can't wait until JM is gone. Even if the Sox lose a few players, I guarantee when JM is gone, even with a little less talent on the team, they will have a better record than this season's team ends up with. Look at all the other playoff teams. They're all like 30 games over 500. The White Sox are 8. Yeah, but they're all major leaguers. They don't have to learn once they hit the bigs. They should not need to be told. If you can't play now, you can't play. The manager doesn't swing the bat or pitch the ball.

I'm behind George all the way with this one. I've seen it happen before my very eyes with the Sooners. Stoops came in and moved players to their proper positions and they went to a bowl game. He only had a couple of new players and they weren't significant upgrades. 2nd year as coach, national champions, and they've sustained good play since. Having a manager that knows the game can make a huge difference. Manuel does not know the game well enough to be managing this team.

Tom Gordon's in the dugout crying... the only one with heart. I love the guy, and I think we need to keep him.

I agree him and Marte - if they continue like they played this year as far as I am concerned they have found a home.

I agree completely. Guys like him and Everett are who I feel most sorry for ... the term "corpseball" doesn't carry much meaning for them (corpseball, of course, being tied at least in part to an unfocused approach). They learned the hard way what this team has been made of for years: A tease followed by a choke.

THIS is White Sox baseball.
