The only walker being the team's best hitter, Maggs. In a microcosm, that is the problem with this team - lack of real skill with the bat. Thus, we continually go through hitting slumps and really can't hit good pitching.
No, we wouldn't have won with a couple more walks - but the point is that nearly everyone on this team swings for the fences. Yes, two or three times a year, Jose goes crazy and hits 2 or 3 out; otherwise, he checks in with a dismal .308 OBP.
Getting punked by Kenny effing Rogers does not a playoff team make.
On a related subject, retrospectively we can point to a lot of things that put us in this position, but I will point to going 7-7 against lowly Anaheim and Texas after we assumed the division's lead.
