I'd just like to point out that that egregiously bad call by the umps at 3rd didn't cost the Twins a run, thanks to AJ Pierzyandkakdfakrqeiqiq's head-up-rectal-cavity baserunning.

Any reason Jerry's bringing in Schoenweis instead of Adkins, Paniagua, or Koch (besides the lefty vs. lefty matchup?).

With a 6 run lead I think it might be the time to rest the bullpen and let some other call ups get an inning.

Another point about Koch:

Even if the Sox have a huge lead, and even if JM keeps him on a short leash, he WILL GET HIS ASS BOOED OFF coming in from the 'pen, possibly killing his confidence yet again. Sox fans know all too well how absolutely huge this series is, and how no lead is safe with Koch in.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but Jerry did the right thing. A six-run lead in the 9th should be safe. He can't predict Paniaqua would blow up like that. If he brings in Flash or Marte to start that inning we'd be crucifying him for that move too.

NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER
count the Twins out of ANY game!

They are the exact opposite of corpseball, they play the game the way it's supposed to be played.

Those SOB's NEVER quit and Manager Gandhi needed to realize this.

That being said the Twins had two walks and two bloops in that inning. I thought I was in the friggin' Metrodome for a minute.

A LOUSY way to end the game and give the Twins hope for tomorrow, although I guess nobody expected them to roll over and die (althought we can always hope...)

It's a win though.

I agree that its not Manuel's fault, but I would have like to have given Koch a shot just to see if he could contribute.

They better release Pani tomorrow.

Remember the suferfan sketches on SNL? Chris Farley's character would always have a heart attack and give him self CPR by beating himself on the chest - funny stuff - anyway....

That's how I felt after this game!

I'm not a JM fan, but I can't really disagree with his moves in the 9th. This wasn't a bad place to try Paniagua; he was simply awful. JM might have pulled him a batter sooner. Then Flash made a couple of mistakes -- walking the first batter and missing a pitch on an 0-2 count (according to Farmer on the radio).

And when you get down to it, that's the bottom line. The Sox are now 2 games in front, instead of tied again. Ugly or not, heart-attack inducing or not, I'll still take that ugly of a win tonight, rather than a loss.

I blame Manuel for leaving Paniagua in after the 2nd batter. It was obvious he had nothing and he left him in anyways.

Just an additonal point that in fairness needs to be remembered the Twins got TWO bloop hits in that inning...if either one of them is caught the entire inning never happens.

Jones got his with a defensive swing on 0-2 to boot.

When Major League Baseball starts awarding style points, I'll start bitching about how the Sox won this game.

They all look the same in the win column.

I was thinking the same thing when Maggs had the bases loaded in the 8th, and we couldn't push across another run or two. Of course, I didn't think the Twins would threaten that badly...

Well said - a W is a W.

It's like in bowling - a bad ugly strike - is still a strike.

Have to cut JM slack here. You have a 6 run lead with 3 outs to go. The best hitters are out 7 times out of 10. The pitcher usually has the advantage. Now, if he can't find the plate then it's not his day. Did JM leave him in too long? No, they won. If they had lost, then you can look for reasons why.

Bottom line - Sox in 1st place 2 games up!!!

Who did Pani give the finger to?

Apparantly he got ejected for giving someone the finger.

Yeah, Flash really got a rest tonight didn't he.

Life Back From The Game.

I was sitting in Box 153 and had some pretty good seats. It was a fantastic game. I'm going to now go over a few points I was happy with, some things I was upset/not so happy with and a few random thought at the end.

Upset/Not So Happy:

1. The ******* wave was started in the 8th inning and I was absolutely pissed. Some people were booing, but most were doing it. It must have went around 6 times. I hate it because nobody waving was paying attention and those who were actually trying to watch the game had their view obstructed. Oh, it just so happened the Twinkies threatened that inning... Yet nobody knew about it until things were looking pretty bad. Horrible.

2. Also in the 8th, some moron threw a plush Sox toy onto the field. It was left there and nobody picked it up, as nobody saw it, except for the people in the left field corner. The person who threw it was booed pretty well, so that's good.

3. The 9th inning was so damn quiet. My friend and I tried getting several chants of "Go, Sox, Go!" to start, but failed. However, as the Twins got walk upon walk upon bloop hit, it was way too quiet. I was shaking my head inside there. Not as much as I was shaking and swearing during the wave, though.

4. In my opinion, the attendance was a little disappointing. With over 32,000 last night, I was hoping for another 30,000+ night, but only 27,623 (I believe) showed up. For the most part, though, they were very loud (sans the 9th) and that pleased me.

Happy About:

1. As mentioned, the crowd was very loud and some awesome chants were started. Frank got some deafening "MVP!" chants, Maggs got his "O-E-O, Magglio!" and even JosÚ had the "olÚ" takeoff.

2. The Sox played pretty well. The offense totally showed up (especially in the 7th), the defense was nice and the pitching - for the most part - was really good.

3. In the 8th inning, the fans in left field went crazy and started yelling at the Twins. A fan to my left and higher up had a Twins sign and people booed. When I heard cheering, I looked back and saw someone had torn the sign in half. I liked it. As part of the 8th inning, the fans in left field went ballistic on Stewart. It was absolutely hilarious. One guy was yelling, "Go back to the FagDome!" The "Twinkies Suck!" chant circulated several times. Whenever a Twinkie was shown on DiamondVision, loud choruses of booing rang out. The best part was some genius, who in my opinion, should be honored at the Cell. When Stewart was in left field, the following chant erupted:

"MARTHA STEWART! MARTHA STEWART! MARTHA STEWART!"

Stewart was irate beyond belief and could not contain himself as he kept on staring at us in the left field box down the third base line. He just kept standing there and breathing heavily.

:D:

A few more thoughts about the game.

Gardenhire played the 9th as if the game were over (and, he took out Stewart which made me chuckle as I can just imagine having seen Stewart whine to Gardenhire about the fans calling him Martha Stewart), which it essentially was. Schoweneweis had some trouble, but he pitched decent, as far as I can recall. Sullivan pitched well. Marte got up three times during the game, and once during the 9th inning, the inning where Manuel brought in Paniagua.

Paniagua was an acceptable move as the Sox were up 6 runs. I would have liked to have seen Koch, but you have to get Joe Bread and Water in and see what he's got. He had nothing. I won't lose a second of sleep if he's sent back to Charlotte, or released. He might get one more chance, but it had better be in a blowout (like tonight was supposed to be), because every game counts and the Sox cannot afford any more losses, particularly ones that they should have won.

Let's see: The Blue Plane won, Cheese won, A.T. Money won and the Orange Frog won. I might have forgotten one who won.

Overall, it was an exciting game that had everything and I couldn't have asked for a better ending! Two games up and counting!

Go, White Sox!

Go, White Sox!

The crowd didn't respond to your "Go, Sox, Go!" chant not because they weren't into the game, but because that chant sucks. That chant isn't one that flows nicely like "Let's go White Sox".

Very well said Geroge...But I gotta tell you...I'd love to see a nice blowout tonight where there is no competition all game.
