If the Twinks & Roys lose ...

Magic Numbers:
SOX: 163 - 73 - 64 = 26
MIN: 163 - 71 - 64 = 28
KCR: 163 - 70 - 64 = 29

For sCrUB fans:
SOX 73-64 .533 :gulp:
CUB 69-67 .507 :o:

back a REAL team!

I've got to bring up this site WinningUgly! game me again:
http://riot.ieor.berkeley.edu/~baseball/american_league.html

Since they factor in games played against the 2nd place team later in the season...out magic number before today was 23.

Those numbers are doing it in reverse.
If the MN differential is 4 then the min # of wins the SOX need with 25 GL is 21.
But that's not a true MN in the sense of accounting for both SOX wins & contenders losses.

KCR: 163 - 70 - 64 = 29

Because MIN has 66L, it amounts to a -4 in MN for the SOX for both MIN & KCR.

Prediction: KC will finish w 161 GP as there will be no need for the 162nd.

If the SOX win the 4 series vs KC & MN, they will shave their MN to 5. They will need just 5/11 from BOS, CLE, & NYY.

i'm sure most sox fans will be tracking this in their heads feverishly the next few weeks...

but, sportsline now lists magic numbers in the standings.

http://www.sportsline.com/mlb/standings

this is now my web browser start up page because it's such a beautiful sight.
